    thin lightweight flip-flops?

Archies were developed and made in Australia. Available from most physiotherapists here and some retail outlets. For the rest of the world their online store is very reliable.

Flip-Flops with an inbuilt arch support = Archies I used them on the CF last year; so comfy after a day walking https://archiesfootwear.com.au/

How to store and transfer videos when I am on the Camino.

Last Sep/Oct I walked the CF and took 2000+ RAW photos on an iPhone. It had plenty of storage but experience has taught me to have a backup copy. I took a SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive Luxe 256GB 2-in-1 memory stick. It has a Lightning iPhone connector at one end and a USB Type-C or 3.0 at the...

    Vodafone vs Orange

Consider Movistar. Last year I bought Movistar “data only” sim in Pamplona. It was one month prepaid and previous experience told me not to expect to be able to top it up online a month later. As it happened I was able to top up in the Movistar store in Astorga. The best news is that their...

    The Perfect (almost) Backpack?

I would have no hesitation using it again. Although UL it is very durable.

    The Perfect (almost) Backpack?

Last Sep/Oct I walked the CF with a Gossamer Gear G4-20 42L Ultralight Pack and would recommend it. Using all ultralight gear my daily pack weight including water was 7.5kg

Sleeping Bag Weight for CF in Oct: Share Your Tips!

For my CF last year from mid Sep to late Oct I took an AegisMax UL Goose Down sleeping bag, weight 410g. Part of a very light daily pack of 6.5kg + water. I stayed in a mix of albergue dorms and private rooms and only used it when a blanket was not available.

How did you get to the Camino (not the travel part)

Several life events and experiences over many years combined to find me in St Jean Pied de Port in mid September ’22. Retirement; death of an adult child; ADHD diagnosis at 68; the need to think about the past and improve the future; and the desire to be a better family member. Individually...

    Covid and Phone plans

We got mixed advice about the French SiMs working in Spain so used WhatsApp on free wifi until Pamplona. We now know from chatting to others that some work and some don’t.

    Covid and Phone plans

Currently in Galicia having walked from SJPdP with my brother. Our iPhones already had eSIMs for AUS so we each got data-only Spanish sims, me MOVISTAR and he ORANGE. We got data-only sims because we only needed internet and WhatsApp. MOVISTAR has been the most reliable of the two, providing...

What not to take? And what to not forget?

Hi Lhollo, what a hugely informative and helpful thread this is and thank you for your detailed contribution. I am interested in your choice of the Gossamer Gear G4-20 as your backpack. I have bought the G4-20 for my CF starting mid April’22. Most of my multi-day hikes in Australia have...

    April 2022

Apart from booking StJPdP and Orisson I am winging it. Maybe book a couple of days ahead of bigger cities like Burgos. I prefer to be flexible based on how I am feeling physically and how my walk is going generally. I have read 50+ pilgrim memoirs during COVID. Some people shouldn’t write...

Welcome. The anticipation, research and planning has helped maintain my sanity during Melbourne’s never-ending lockdowns. It’s now starting to look like a real possibility.

Learning Spanish - Methods, resources, experiences, etc.

I am in Australia but the public libraries have very similar services here so I will check it out. I asked a simple question and have got back so much info. Language Transfer sounds very interesting.

Learning Spanish - Methods, resources, experiences, etc.

Thanks Gumba, I have now installed Duolingo and it looks like a good supplement to the book work which can be a bit dry. I am in Doncaster and had been planning to walk the Frances route with my Boston based brother in April this year. It was/is going to be a post retirement refresh for two...
