I saw this on a church near the Guinness brewery in Dublin. Does anyone know what Camino it's marking?
(The white stuff is paint, by the way, not bird droppings!)
I have to strongly disagree with this. One of the dirty little secrets about the Camino that I rarely see or hear mentioned is the party culture. Some of the worst experiences I had in albergues were people who went out drinking and came back to turn the dorm into one big slumber party. This...
I usually pray the Rosary as I walk, too. I agree the experience of the Camino itself can be a form of prayer. You can dedicate each day towards trying to grow closer to God.
I can't imagine trying to diet while walking a Camino. I am losing a fair amount of weight (I had extra to lose so I'm fine with that) and I'm eating all that I can. My body doesn't do well on starches so I minimize the bread and potatoes. There are plenty of other ways to get good calories...
The weirdest thing that has happened so far is coming out of the showers in an albergue to find a young German couple having Naked Backrub Time. (Yes, they did know I was there and that I'd gone to take a shower.) They made no apologies but shortly thereafter left to go "find a drink" somewhere.
I don't think Patti meant that is all she'd eat in a single day, lol. Cooking for yourself doesn't mean skimping out - quite the opposite. Hikers who do long distance or wilderness hiking have to carry and prepare all of their own food nearly every day so it's a matter of routine for us.
One of...
I love people who carry whatever they want in order to be self-sufficient. I love that kind of walking, myself. It's so nice to be able to do your own thing and to provide for others as well when your fellow peregrino could use a cooking pot or a knife or something similar.
The Esbit tabs are a little more expensive than in the U.S. but not outrageously so:

I am doing the Norte and starting in a few days (!!!) so it's a bit different from yours but I will definitely share my camping experiences!
I'm carrying a little ultralight stove, too. I bought solid fuel tablets (more lightweight than liquids) via Amazon.es and had them delivered to my hotel. Easy peasy.
Why can't you get peanut butter?
I know what you mean, Pattii, I'm trying to plan all this from California. It feels like the days are FLYING past!
I am going to be traveling in Europe after my Camino, too. There are services that hold suitcases for pilgrims in Santiago (for a fee, of course), you'll find them if you do a...
I think this is a wonderful idea but if people sleeping in albergues object to snoring adults I can only imagine what their reaction would be to a crying baby...
I am walking 6 days a week and lifting weights 3 days a week. I increase the daily walk about a mile and a half over the course of a week. For example, last week I started out walking 3 miles, then increased it to 3.5, then 4, and I was walking 4.5 miles per day by the end of the week. I walk...
