What 'Camino' Food do you Now eat at Home?

Oh yes and Tarta de Santiago is my go-to pot luck and gluten free dessert.

What 'Camino' Food do you Now eat at Home?

Great topic. Cafe con leche everyday. Pimientos de Padron, whenever I find padron peppers. Very challenging in Toronto. Tomato jam. Chorizo in red wine. And various version of Caldo Gallego. Every time I make any of these it brings me back.

    Cell phone manners at night

I find it a little disheartening reading these comments. I remember my Camino being more understanding and compassionate. I have gone twice without my husband (not his thing). And we have a six hour time difference. So I spoke with him daily to let him know I was OK, that I missed him and to...

Leon to Santiago, just got back.

Scary, I love your attitude. You sound as though you thoroughly enjoyed your Camino and didn't worry about anyone else's. An attitude I wish to emulate when I go next year. Thank you for sharing.

    Debit card Help!

Good morning, my debit card works in banks such as Santander but not credit unions or cooperatives. I could not use it in any that had Cooperativo or Populaire in its name. I hope that helps.

    Jewelry on the Camino

Good advice about getting the ring off after an injury. On my first Camino, I fell (tripped) on the bridge coming into Santiago; the one with wooden slats. I went down hard on my left arm and hand. Nothing broken but started swelling immediately. I had on my wedding band and was reminded by a...

    Dissect My Packing List...Go!

HI Shawna, lots of really good suggestions. I plan to take you to Sail, they have Osprey and a big selection of sleeping bags. It is closest to where I live. Check their website. MEC is a bit further, but we will have time if Sail doesn't have what you need and there are one or two other...

    Mental Fatigue

I think the point being made was singing lightens a situation one finds challenging and as we are all different, what one finds challenging, another finds peaceful. Thank goodness the Camino allows us all to celebrate those differences.

    Mental Fatigue

Carza, Thank you asking the question. I wonder about the same thing. I plan to walk CF next May. I have walked parts of the Camino in 2014 and 2015 with friends. There was seldom time "in my own head". The walk next May will be mainly on my own, meeting my husband in Sarria. So I wonder how I...

    Engagement/Wedding Bands

Since you are in Ontario, and while I know it's not around the corner, there is an amazing custom jeweller in Elora. So if you are in this part of the province, it's a beautiful town and worth having a look. But I am sure any custom jeweller could do what you want. A simple engraved scallop...

    (Nice) smells on the Camino

    Eucalyptus as you near Santiago.

    Albergue kitchens

Hi ShellyPaul, I have only walked from Leon to SdC and only cooked once or twice but we did go to grocery stores almost daily to buy fruit and yogurt for breakfast. Or hard sausage for lunch. Reduces the need to eat all three meals a day in cafes and restaurants. Some albergues we stayed at had...

Tourist traps, expectations, and other petty annoyances

Very well said and thank you. A kind heart and generous spirit goes a long way to living the experience.

    Nutrition

Hi, I always bought yogurt the night before and that coupled with a banana and cafe con leech keep me going all morning. Lunch was usually tortilla or bocadillos but I was travelling with others so we often shared and it was plenty. Usually a piece of fruit to finish. Very occasionally we would...

    Perfume/cologne on the Camino

That will definitely be my solution in the future. Private rooms and private baths.

    Perfume/cologne on the Camino

Thank you and no trust me I have no expectation that others will alter their ways. Just hoping some people reading this may reconsider their use of strong scents when sharing close quarters with others.

    Perfume/cologne on the Camino

I am honestly not sure whether it's synthetic or natural and I so wish it didn't bother me. I love perfume and havecseveral bottles but can no longer wear any. I don't want to offend anyone, I am just asking that people be aware in close quarters that sometimes people are sensitive to scents.
