I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

Thanks to those who have posted comments on UK/Schengen list David, my source for this was a map I found on the web and a list of countries involved. I did this research around the time of Brexit (or just after). The map and info clearly stated that post Brexit, uk would still be a part of...

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

@sunflowerfunk I cant tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Your numbers are about what I was expecting - 15 for Gebennensis, a rest day in LePuy, say 33 for Le Puy and 35 for Frances - thats 83 days plus 6 rest days. We will leave for Madrid the next day to fly home...

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

thanks @Peterexpatkiwi - I believe that it is near impossible to get anything other than 90 days which I have pretty much accepted but you are right - it is worth a phone call. We are planning to start in 2027, so plenty of time to plan!!!!

I arrived in Santiago and didn't see a single pilgrim.

@Mr_Ross_Duncan, we are planning to walk from Geneva to Santiago and would love to hear about your experience - did you write a blog by any chance or have you posted about it on the forum? Would love to hear all about it!! Are you currently living in the EU? As Australians we will need to be...

    Passport, Credencial and Certificate Care

When we got our half way certificates in Sahagun we went back to the post office and sent them home. Didn't have to worry about them after that. They went in a cardboard envelope and arrived in Australia perfectly flat. Passports from SJPDP went in a plastic ziplock - 4 in the one ziplock bag...

Top Tips starting from St JeanPied de Port

Barbara, when are you walking? I did my first CF in Moab 2 and my second in Moab boots - a very lightweight boot. I decided on the boot as they were comparatively light weight (not a heavy boot which I loath). I got the boot because we were walking Dec/Jan and I was expecting more snow that...

On the Camino: One Day at a Time, one Photo at a Time 6.0

March 2018. Just after 'the sign' in Roncesvalles. It snowed all the way to Pamplona. In the distance are our two sons, they were 9 and 11. Coming from Australia it was the first time they saw snow. I love the way their footprints zig and zag together

    Schengen Question

Thanks Raggy, brilliant article/link. Given I am 25 years past being able to get a student visa (LOL) the article pretty much confirms that I will need to walk a little further each day and accept that we only have 90 days!

    Schengen Question

I have heard of consequences and would not go over the 90 days. I have been recently looking at the Schengen rules, and I am talking about this from an Australian point of view, but there are different visa categories whether you want to go out and leave the zone and then come back in - a...

    Winter Camino & Washing Clothes?

Rob, we walked our winter caminos as a family of 4 so it was more than justifiable to use a washing machine and dryer every 2-3 days (full load). Other days we just washed underwear and base layers and hung them over a heater in our room (we often had a 4 bed room!). I remember in the...

What Unexpected item did you find in your pack when you got home?

Two large jars of cola cao which the kids desperately wanted. One in my pack, one in my husband's. My bag went missing when we arrived back in Australia - our son was devastated that he might never see his jar of 'the best drinking chocolate ever'. Luckily it turned up a week later.

What's the one thing in your pack, that you absolutely CANNOT do without...and why?

Nothing of sentiment as I am blessed enough to walk with my family. Having said that, we have walked Easter, Christmas and our son's birthday so I shlepped small presents for the children across the CF. Twice!!! And they something for All Kings Day because it was a novelty. Not sure who I...

Nearly 85% Decrease in Pilgrims in 2020

It will be interesting to see how those stats change if the 12 month period was Feb 2020-Feb 2021 or March to March. My family of 4 walked the CF (SJPDP-SDV), arriving around 20 Jan 2020, when there was just a whisper of an outbreak in Wuhan. When we arrived in at the Pilgrims office we were...

How do you train for the Camino?

Hi C clearly, it really is hard to do the training especially when working. We walk in winter so start training 6 months prior in our Australian winter, short walks first, maybe 5km, increasing to 10-15km on the weekends - it takes up a huge part of the day. We then start doing smaller walks...

    Camino Statues - Still Searching

Hi Robo, just a thought.. Have you searched 'other' pilgrim routes for statues of a pilgrim? ie Portuguese or even Via Francegina for example? Probably a bit of an esoteric suggestion but thought I would put it out there.
