What was the hardest part of the Camino de Santiago?

For me, SJPP to Roncesvalles was incredibly difficult. Hubby and I were 69 and 71 and we had walked a lot in preparation. We recall it as "Awesome Awful"! The early September weather was perfect and the views were soooo beautiful! We have no regrets, only perfect memories of crossing the...

    Depopulation In Spain

Demographic winter where the birth rate is low. I believe in Spain as a whole it is 1.3 and 2.2 is necessary to sustain population. In rural areas depopulation just sticks out like a sore thrumb.

    Opinions back home

Ah, just tell the folks at home they can follow "your blog" each day. Then do a blog. My hubby and I were 69 & 71 and never left unsafe, and we were rarely alone... others just passed us by. Go, go, go! It was just more than awesome! Buen camino!

    Foot and ankle strengthening exercises

I had PF doing the C.F. in 2015. I was fine from SJPP til Burgos, then the pain became progressively worse. I did intermittent bus trips which allowed my husband to keep going. Not what we planned, but that became "my" camino. We both made it to SdC, but... differently. The pain really was...

    Non-RC pilgrims and mass

Anyone is certainly welcomed to attend Catholic masses on the camino (or any place for that matter ). Common sense says to be respectful in any church or holy place, but please go in and see it all. People have all sorts of opinions on the reception of holy communion, but the fact is that for...

Meltdowns. How did/do you handle them?

Take a few short days, stay an extra day somewhere, and think about your mental intensity. It can be a matter of just "letting it be" and going with the flow. Buen camino!

What was the hardest part of the Camino de Santiago?

My husband and I were 71 & 69 when we did SJPP to SdC in the fall of 2015. We did some walking prep, I did strength training at the Y and we purchased shoes, backpacks etc. with advice from this sight. I thought the first day was "awesome awful". The views were incredible! I really was...

    Weather in September & October?

We walked 8/27 -10/3 last fall (2015) and our experience was like Felipe's. Some chilly mornings, a few nights when I wore socks to bed, and a downpour of rain in Pamplona. It rained 2 other times, otherwise the days were nice.

I Need my Morning Coffee :)

We got up 5:30 - 6 a.m., dressed, washed faces, brushed teeth and left. We had cafe con leche and breakfast after walking for a couple of hours, of course, it depended on the days route. Sometimes we did buy fruit and/or bread the night before to get us through til there was a cafe. Just plan...

I saw this on Camino Companions site om Facebook and thought I'd share it.

Good advice from SY. Don't burn anything at Finisterre ... apparently it is a significant problem.

Name the one thing you could never have prepared for

We began in SJPP and my foot was painful by Burgos, and at Castrojeriz I had to give it up and make other plans. We backtracked to Burgos and took the bus to Leon. My husband finished the camino from there, and I met up with him here and there via taxi or bus. You know it was disappointing...

Name the one thing you could never have prepared for

Yup, the plantar fasciitis was what I was unprepared for as I'd never had it and I was a walker too. If you're over 40 go get an evaluation on need for orthodics.

    Special Church song help

I didn't know the song, but I will have my Basque friend listen to it tomorrow and see if he recognizes the song. The music / singing in the Cathedral was beautiful to me.

    Bad taste?

In Burgos we saw 3 or 4 street adverts for Burger King, but never did actually see one in the three days we were there. We weren't looking to eat there, but it became a search. Thought it was pretty funny. In Leon we stayed at albergue S.Maria de Carbajal, and we did go to the McD's nearby as...

"Friends of Planar Fascitis and Heel Spur

I got plantar fasciitis halfway through the CF from SJPP. It was so painful! I did continue walking for awhile and did exercises and stretches without much relief, but finally had to resort to the bus or taxi. When I returned home I got CADENCE insole orthodics and a FUTURO Night Foot sleep...
