@Al...I've been counting the days since they were slightly under 300 :-D As of today our countdown is at 142. However, that is when we leave the US.
When I added on the travel/rest days, I think we are also 146 days from walking. Tuesday, May 26th we will head over the Pyrenees.
Joe, That's what they pay me to do! ;-) The school district I teach in is in Loves Park, IL. It's near the Wisconsin/Illinois state line, 80 miles west of Chicago.
Thank you again everyone!
I am teaching Google Docs now, but we won't be to the presentations until after the Christmas break, so that is when I will be showing it to them. I will definitely check back with you all afterward in hopes that I can report they enjoyed it as much as you did...
Again, I must say how I LOVE this forum.
NavyBlue, those are exactly the type of corrections I was hoping people would catch for me.
The shift in KM to miles was intentional to help my kiddos understand the distance...the European standard for measurement is not something they use regularly...
Felipe...due to the incredibly strict (and sometimes ridiculous) guidelines for Common Core (blah, blah) the only way I'm able to incorporate sharing something like this is to "sneak" it into the curriculum. The assignment: an informative presentation created with Google Slides. Mine is...
Changes made! Thanks again!
Side note: (educator in me creeping out) Google Drive is a wonderful thing. If you are a user of Microsoft products, and aren't familiar with it, check it out!
Changes are automatic, no need to repost another link.
Oh...and the snail, as well as 90% of the pictures are from Sherry Ott. I discovered her photography and asked her permission to use it. She has some incredible photos of the camino and other places she has traveled.
THANK YOU!!
Falcon... I have read so many of your posts and consider your opinion quite important! I am flattered you found it enjoyable.
lcacos...I GREATLY appreciate your input. The water thing I had read on several forums and found a bit odd but interesting...however interesting means...
Hello pilgrims. I have found the most useful information on the Internet for our upcoming camino on this forum. Thank you all very much.
Our camino is still months away, (end of May) and as we work on preparing physically, mentally and linguistically, I am also working on something to fill my...
The hope is that 36 days will be sufficient to simply walk. We do not want to plan anything in advance (other than a reservation in Orrison), but I definitely want to have researched all of our options while a computer is handy and I can easily click the "translate' button. :-) When I said we...
After thinking through the logistics of a bike for a short portion, it would be a pain in the behind! I also think I need to stop thinking and just be positive....36 days is very do-able, and if I find it isn't...I'm sure I'll figure out the solution then :-) Thanks everyone!
Our thought was (only IF after walking a couple weeks it starts becoming evident an average 25k/day pace is unrealistic, and therefore need a way to conserve time) to buy cheap, used bicycles to use for ONE day to 'catch up', and then give them to a local 80 or so k's later...long before we...
This will be our first time ever traveling abroad (many of our friends and family simply cannot understand why THIS would be our destination!) Hard telling if life will provide us with a second opportunity. Which is why we are trying to determine how to get the most appreciation in the time we...
Hello Pilgrims. I posted once before on this forum regarding whether or not to walk with my husband or alone. After reading, and giving serious thought to the replies, we have decided to travel to Europe together and let the camino decide from there...seemed to be the theme to go with! :-)...
Wow...first, I must say if this forum represents what awaits on the camino, I already see why the many posts I have read express how your camino family will take care of you. Thank you all for your genuine replies and suggestions. I DO know this will be what I make of it, and it is not going...
Thank you for the wonderful insight. A lot to ponder...I know the camino is not a 'magic pill', if it were I would have made my pilgrimage long ago. I do feel the time for reflection and meditation is just what the Dr. ordered....what is not clear in my mind yet is...for me? or for us? I am...
I have a question that I have searched high and low for words of wisdom from anyone that has taken this journey under similar circumstances. I have not found any. So....(sorry, here comes the necessary background knowledge.)
This past year I have nearly lost my son to heroin addiction. He is...
