Thank you all, we are currently in León and have seen most of the sights so we will be moving on and having our rest day in Astorga as most of you recommended.
Again, thanks for all the great input!!
Hi all,
Currently about 3 days from Leon and wondering about where to take a rest day. We began in Lourdes so this is about our 4th/5th week and we took rest days in both Burgos and Pamplona.
This upcoming rest day will be our last until Santiago and I want it to be peaceful/relaxing but also...
Hi Trish,
I'm a little less than halfway through my first Camino, but so far I've especially enjoyed the following villages:
Estella (leafy plazas and history galore)
Los Arcos (THE. CHURCH.)
Cirauqui (medieval charm)
Lorca (quaint beyond belief)
Mañeru (beautiful surroundings)
Viscarret (I...
Hello all,
I'm currently in the small village of Villambistia, just two days away from Burgos. We plan to take a rest day in Burgos on the 30th and 31st of June, BUT there is the Sampedros festival going on all week!!
Will this make it hard to find accommodation? Also, will things be closed...
Hi all,
I've been reading a lot about how crowded the Way is getting in recent years, with new material and new guidebooks coming out all the time which is feeding the interests of many different types of people. While for many the point of El Camino is to meet new people from all over the...
Thank you for this information, Lise! I kind of figured that there was something weird about it being "booked" so far in advance, so thanks for telling me this! I'll be sure to check back in February and reserve a bed at this albergue! I've heard so many great things about L'Esprit and can't...
Hey all,
I'm walking from Lourdes next summer and was checking into reservations at L'Esprit du Chemin once I arrive in SJPdP (planned around the 15th of June)... but to my dismay, ALL of the dates were red (which means already reserved) from now until September of 2014! I can't believe this...
Can't answer #2, as I haven't done the Camino yet (June 2014 is when I go for the first time). But here's my answers:
1. This year, is there a greater percentage of walkers using the camino as a cheap walking holiday rather than a pilgrimage?
You can never really know into the hearts and minds...
Hey all,
So I bought the Oboz Yellowstone II hiking boots/shoes about two months ago and I've been reading a lot about them. Bad part is, most of the stuff I'm reading is scaring me.
For hiking the Appalachian Trail, they're perfect, say most of the reviews. But the Camino in not the AT...
This is probably the wrong place for this, but WOW!!!
Take a look ------- http://www.elcorreogallego.es/santiago/ecg/un-peregrino-vitoria-77-anos-completa-su-camino-numero-dieciocho/idEdicion-2013-06-25/idNoticia-813665/#
This guy has walked El Camino eighteen times, and from places like...
Thanks to all for your ideas/suggestions! I've decided to keep it toned down and remain in Spain for my trip rather than trying to stuff it full with other cultures... Spain has enough cultural variety as it is! (i.e. Basque, Catalan, Galician....)
Most likely, I'll be spending a few days in...
I'll be arriving in Lourdes in early June of 2014, walking from there to Santiago, and then whatever happens next is still up in the air.
I really want to go somewhere with a lot to do and a lot of culture, but somewhere that can be seen in just 5 days (at least the highlights).
I've really...
Hello all!
I have about 7-10 days after the Camino Frances to visit other places in Europe, and would like to take advantage of it!!
I've researched Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Portugal, London.... even Switzerland!! But it's just too hard to pick!
So..... Which do YOU recommend as the best...
Laurie-
I think you hit a wonderful point. As a "first timer" myself, posts like these really have worried me, even to considering dropping my upcoming camino altogether!! But you are right in saying that without expectations, all we "newbies" have is a lot of excitement and anxiety. One...
Thanks for the advice, JabbaPapa. Would you happen to have an English language version of the "official" itinerary you speak of? I'd like to see for myself the mountains and estimate from there whether or not I'd be up to the challenge!
Thanks to all for your input!
I have ultimately decided to arrive on July 24 in Santiago and spend a few days enjoying the festivities, because hey, the Camino is called "de Santiago" for a reason, so why not finish it on his day?
Buen camino! :D
Hello all!
I know this thread may not be in the correct place, but I wasn't sure where to put it.
But my question is:
Next summer I will be doing the Camino from Lourdes, France. This is my first Camino ever and I wanted to make it special by starting at an important Catholic shrine...
Thank you for this information, CaminoJohn!
I'll certainly be buying the e-book version, as carrying around such a large book is a bit of a scary thought!
