Welcome to the club! Get a well-fitted pack and good shoes, pack light, start slow and see you there. I should rejoin the Camino frances around the 16 or 17 of September in Puente la Reina
But you're in Spain, not in the jungle or deep forest. You'll come across plenty of bars to warm up or get away from heavy rain or a sports store if you need a warmer t-shirt.
Maybe you can walk the Valcarlos road. If you don't want to do that, try making a réservation at Hunto for your first night instead of staying in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port; it makes the walk to Roncesvalles more manageable.
Veils? It's not the 50's in Spain. It's a modern country that has seen religion lose its grip on society. Unlike the USA where more than 40% of the population attends church, Spain only has 23% and more than 50% say they never attend at all. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_attendance)
This is why you should never agree to a set time to contact someone because if you can't do it for some reason (lack of computer, you forget because you're having too much fun,...) it makes people scared.
I hate wearing a hat since I find it really hot. I do wear a Buff...keeps the sweat off my face and neck. I am bringing a very lightweight running cap to wear with my poncho and keep the rain off my glasses.

Re: Re: RE: Two stamps per day from Sarria to SdC?
At least they didn't stay in the albergue like I saw quite a few times in 2011. Guy gets out if his car parked in front, gets his pack from the trunk and walks in just behind me.
Yarma, dialer back the training and get some backpackers inserts for your shoes. And, sorry to say but be prepared to walk the Camino with soir kind of pain. You read a lot of boasting on this forum about not having blisters because they use THE best technique to avoid them or they have walked...
Actually, I would suggest that age has nothing to do with it. However, older Europeans seem to have an ease about them. Three younger ones seemed to have a harder time, trying to "run" the Camino...
I have to say I'm not surprised to hear this. With all the talks of the "best" albergues, the "boring" parts to skip, etc. it is bound to change and become an "all-inclusive" type of vacation. The camino needs time and effort. Sorry if I offend anyone but I do believe that walking 4 days on the...
Repost from another thread:
It's crazy...I walked with Dario in May 2011. He was known by all; he organised communal dinners to save money, meet people and taste foods from all over the world. Some would say he was almost overbearing but his heart was in the right place all the time. He loved...
If you plan in using your walking shoes for the remainder of the walk, use them. There is no need for technical footwear for the road up to Roncesvalles since the walking is done along roads most of the way.
