A Gastronomic Guide to The Camino Frances.

Just a point of clarification please. Do you mean you are compiling a guide to share with us on the forum or to sell? Thanks

You know you are a seasoned pilgrim, when you

When you see a marker that says 360 km to Santiago and your immediate reaction is 'oh no, it's nearly over' just another 15 days or so, and then laugh when you realise that 2 months ago you would never have thought this possible or measured time in this way.

I've been home under a week, what Camino to walk next?

I can add another vote for the Le puy route but also suggest the Arles route and Aragones to puente la Reina. Depends when you want to go and whether you speak any French as the walkers on the French trails are mostly French as are of course the hospitaliers.

Where's the end of the Camino for you?

I walked from Le Puy to Santiago which I thought was the end. However, when I continued to Fisterra and sat on the rocks it felt like a completely different kind of ending. Santiago was celebratory, a party town, whereas Fisterra, the sea, was quiet, contemplative, and moreover a total contrast...

The walk from Finesterre to Muxia...anyone get lost off trail near a house

Yes, me too!!! In october last year also. Having walked for two months from Le Puy to Santiago, I then caught the bus to Fisterra to walk up to Muxia. It was the hardest day....I think my mind and body had decided I had stopped in Fisterra and it was a real slog to get there. I somehow went...

    Thanks to All

Dear Deborah You will have a marvellous, and sometimes challenging time ahead, but with the preparations you have made, and the kind of person this post identifies you as, you will meet much friendship and support to help you on the way. Buen camino

LIVE from the Camino Still alive :-)

Albergue Bela Muxia is a great place to stop and rest for a couple of days at the end of your Camino. Enjoy!!

    Missing the camino

I started out to walk ONE Camino from Conques to Santiago and then Fisterra and Muxia last September and October. What happened? I couldn't stop walking, and have now done three more, and can't wait to do another..... I'm afraid it is true there is no cure!

Approximate Proportions of Route on Roads?

I too much prefer walking on footpaths and was very disappointed at the amount of roads or very hard graded tracks along the Frances. Having said that, it was still an amazing experience. If you want to walk on more rural tracks, maybe consider doing the GR 65 Chemin from Le Puy en Velay, the...

Sleeping bag or Liner in September/October

I walked from le Puy to Santiago, Muxia sept to nov last year with a silk liner.i cannot sleep unless I am WARM, and I do not mean just, not cold! I had two cold nights, Larrasoana, ghastly albergue and town, avoid if possible, and Los Arcos. Both times there were no blankets and wearing all...

    Weather?

I walked at this time last year and managed with layers of merino T shirt, light fleece and light rain jacket plus alternative light merino long sleeve top. I don't remember ever having to wear all four layers at once, and I usually feel the cold if there is any! You will be fine

Walking buddy leaving Astorga on September 16th, 2013?

Don't worry about setting off on your own, you will soon meet others to walk with if you want to, but its also good to enjoy the peace of walking alone, and you will be unlikely to be out of sight of other pilgrims at that time of year if you are nervous

    Safety

I am a single female and having walked with others, I have walked alone on several caminos this past year, I have to say in many ways I prefer it. You are more open to engage with other people, both pilgrims and local inhabitants. Also, sometimes walking companions like to tell you about their...

    How is San Bol?

I stayed there this may and can confirm it is still a lovely place. A very welcoming hospitalero cooked a delicious paella for dinner, it was warm and cosy and in beautful surroundings. Perfect for peace and recuperation after encountering the hordes on the camino this year. I had walked the...

Starting on the Meseta on Saturday. I'm a bit nervous.

I walked part of the Meseta alone a few weeks ago and found no problems with dogs, in fact I can't remember seeing any at all and certainly none to worry about. There is a hill after Castrojeriz, but not too steep and you are rewarded with probably the best view from the top. It should be a...

    Meseta

when is Spring in the Meseta????? March, April & May - or is it earlier, I imagine into May it is probably getting pretty hot. This may sound a mad question, and I know weather patterns are all awry now, but I walked it in October last year and I absolutely loved it, and I want to see it in the...

    The last leg.

Whilst those of us who have walked from Le Puy might succumb to feelings of superiority in a moment of weakness, this soon dissipates when we meet pilgrims who have walked from Vienna, or Geneva, or Koln........ It's all relative! Enjoy it however long it is. As has been said many times...
