As others have said it depends I. Walking speed and the amount of time you want to walk each day. I’d suggest you read other pilgrims blogs to see how others have done the walk. I did it in about 33 days, but I walked long days. Here’s my blog if you are interested...
Thomas, I just returned from my second Camino (October 2104) and did it also in September / October 2012. It is a great time to walk. Though you might enjoy reading my blogs to get a sense of travelling during this time frame.

I forgot to comment on bag size. I had a 40L bag last year and it was full. It weighed about 22 lbs (my detailed packing list is in my blog). It was heavy--have to add water and foood. I plan to walk again next year and am looking at 30L packs. Smaller you can go with, the better.

I walked last year, Sep 15 to Oct 24. It was hot in the day, but cool (almost cold) in the mornings towards he end. I used the biking Arm Warmers in the morning. They are easy to slip on and then really easy to slip off once the sun came out and it warmed up.

I brought Brierley guide with me and was happy with it. I used it as a guide and also asked people where they were going to stop and why. It is nice to know how far the next albergue is when you feel like you still have some walk in you.
I met a woman who had a great iPhone app which also...
I started my camino in St. Jean on Sep 15, 2012 so was walking through the Magna plant property on Sunday, Sep 16, 2012. I made it to Santiago on Oct 13 (29 days of walking).
I know this sounds like a crazy request, but I walked the camino this year (Sep/Oct) and lost my iPhone on Day 2, somewhere between Zubiri and Larrasoana. It was Day 2, I was really tired and hot, knees hurting a bit from the descents and when I got to that staircase you have to walk down on...
I too thought about walking without a guidebook, but I am glad I brought one. I used Brierley and found it a good guide---not a bible, but a guide. Having the guide allowed me to make intelligent decisions on the route about where my next water fountain is, when will I find food, how far is...
I stayed at the municipal albergue in El Burgo Ranero on September 29,2012 (this year--just a little over a month ago!). It was cool, but not cold enough for heat at the time so I cannot tell you about heat. The beds did not have sheets and there was no meal provided.
I spoke to a hospitalero...
I leave for the airport in a few hours to start my trip to Paris and then on to SJPP to start my Camino. I have a reservation at L'Esprit for Friday night and plan to begin walking on Saturday.
Thanks to everyone who has posted. I have read this forum daily for nine months, learned so much...
One more question about water availability. When walking from SJPP to Roncevalles, what is the availability of water? I can't imagaine only 500 ml of water over 8 hours.
I leave for Paris in three days...am so excited, but getting a little nervous as well!

I am planning to walk from SJPP in mid September. Thought it might be a nice rest day / side trip to go to Silos from Buros to see Monasterio and hear the chanting monks. Has anyone taken a bus from Burgos to Silos? How frequent are the busses? Is it worth the side trip to Silos?
