An unholy year on the Camino Frances

Five years after writing this post, I am still humbled by the reports of litter pickers and pledges. I walk the Camino Portuguese in three weeks time with three other and they have no idea that that I'll be handing them a bag on the first morning and be asking them to fill it! :) This will of...

    Camino Frances in November

Hi Genevieve, I walked from SSJP to Finisterra and Muxia departing exactly the same date as you back in the holy year of 2010 and here is what I experienced. Everything was calmer (having walked in the busy summer of 2007) so you never felt the rush of fellow pilgrims. The travel to SSJP was...

An unholy year on the Camino Frances

Looks like even pristine wilderness trails are witnessing this too. Surely, hikers going into such deep backcountry are more educated, or is it the amateur brigade? http://www.pcta.org/2014/time-action-taking-care-poop-16564/

Urgent solution required! Getting to Montserrat.

Hi all, This is probably not the right forum for this but I'm a pilgrim in need! :) I'm walking a stage of the Camino Catalan from Monday 15th and my plane doesn't land into Barcelona El Prato airport in time to get out to Montserrat by public transport. I will waste an entire day (of a very...

    Please critique this idea

Just my tuppence worth.... In December of 2010, two days out of Santiago I came across a Japanese husband and wife with their toddler. This little fellow can only have been 2 years old. Mum waited with toddler while dad walked 20 meters up the path and called to his son who duly trotted to his...

what's the strangest thing that happened to you on the camin

The strangest thing to happen to me on the Camino was coming out of Leon into the countryside and onto a peaceful stretch of trail. An elderly Spanish man with no English, coming the other way, stopped and gestured that I was not married. I laughed and said no, to which he laughed heartily and...

Hi there everyone, Its been a fair while since I was last on these forums and it wasn't until I got a message from a concerned pilgrim hoping for some further advice that I dropped back in to see how the post was going....WOW! Eight and a half thousand reads and a topic thoroughly discussed...

Best guide book for the Camino Frances

Hi Migolito, The Spanish consumer guide annakappa suggested, I actually 'loosely' translated into English back in 2010 if its any help? http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/32910789?access_key=key-2hk4o12x0c2ydot9880w Greg

OMG. I can´t believe I made it this far!

Hi Annie, I see from your post that all is as it should be on the Camino today and its all going to plan :) There is a tiny percentage of pilgrims that can report zero pain in the first week so you are among the vast majority. This means that whatever it is that the Camino has in store for...

    Progress

Each pilgrimage route peaks and troughs in it's popularity. Our generations at present are at 'the peak'. Give it a few hundred years and itll be overgrown and forgotten again (except maybe the last 100km) only read of in e-books and hologram 3-d presentations or whatever technology exists...

    Can you help us?

Hi there Ian, This is a wonderful idea and opportunity. This exact sort of initiative was something I dreamt of doing after my first Camino in 2007 however my life took me to further lands to explore. Again, it would something I would love to do with you all up there in Peterborough but...

    Worried about the boot size

Hi there Gazell, Some extra special tips are needed I think! Here is my youtube channel with some tips on lacing techniques because it sounds like your feet are moving around FAR too much (blisters and bruised toes). Look for the video on boot lacing and double innersoles and socks...

    Worried about the boot size

I work in a shop selling hiking boots at present and have a few tips to share. Get the assistant to measure your feet, with the camino socks on...and dont forget to stand up when on the foot measurer to spread your weight. Once you have the exact sizes, with socks on then look at boots...

    What did you lose...??

Just underwear and socks for me whilst drying them on the back of my pack. My friend Liz however lost her camera's memory card along the trail containing 2 weeks of photos. She began walking with an American girl she had never met and conversation turned to her lost card. You know whats coming...

Lot's of questions from newbie, please help!

Hey there drygin, Regarding footwear, it's sometimes down to personal choice. I've walked twice, once in light hiking shoes, once in waterproof leather boots. Both got me to the end no problems. A friend of mine also walked once in trainers/sneakers like those but I can't say that they will...

    Yáll didn´t tell me

To tell you everything Johnny would simply be giving all the good stuff away! The single most important part of the Camino is the part you are going through right now, we have it easy, pretty much, in our safe, comfortable lot in life and you set out on the Camino for a reason and i'm sure it...
