Ah, Tincatinker, you have an uncanny knack of nailing things in one, usually with a humorous twist. You can turn things anytime you like as far as I’m concerned!
The images and energy aroused by your wonderful writing are deeply moving. I was floating in the way your carefully selected words and finely crafted sentence construction brought this deeply ingrained stretch of the Frances, filled with so many memories, right into my very soul. Thank you. 👣👣
There were definitely large groups (40 and 30) booking in hostels when I walked this year in the Fromista area. They were in close proximity and causing issues for others. Delightful people, definitely walking, most all day, with support vehicle.
Again, I respectfully ask those not currently walking to refrain from commenting. The situation at the moment is different from that in
which you’ve walked in the past, as have I. Tour groups of thirty or forty is close succession are filling the beds in small villages causing concern for...
It might be advisable, if you are not walking now, to not pass comment. I am walking the Meseta right now. Started in Sansol on April 20. Accommodations have become increasingly difficult without bookings since then, way before May weekend. The volume of pilgrims along the Frances is much higher...
Ivar, I’m in Carrion. It’s just the same around here. Pilgrims turned away into the rain last night in Boadilla. Many stressed about finding beds. Pilgrim numbers very high even before this weekend.
There is a Decathlon on the left, up the hill on the way out, which may have something to help you. Did anyone mention to drink lots of water? 😇 Stay safe.
Does anyone happen to know whether there is usually a taxi waiting in either of these places to take pilgrims to Molinaseca? I have to be in Ponferrada early afternoon and will not have time to walk the whole way from Foncebadon.
Thank you for any advice.
It might be best to finish your breakfast before continuing….
The subject of the leavings of ‘hedge hoppers’ regularly rears its ugly head and continues to cause distress.
Observations:
Sadly the human body does not work to a timetable and, when walking long distances, frequently fails when...
For those looking for a quieter alternative, perhaps try either the European Peace walk from Vienna to Trieste, or the newly established Lutherweg in Germany. No Santiago at the end, but they may address some of the issues raised in this and other threads. Any journey can be a personal pilgrimage.
Well done, Terri. Taking the bull by the horns! Totally agree Pamplona (!) would be a wise place to start your adventure. It's easy to get to by train from Barcelona.
Slow but sure will get you there. Don't try to keep up with everyone else. Let your body dictate how far you walk each day so...
That's a really good idea. If anyone has any that they know of already to start the list, that'd be good. It would be useful to include any private accommodations which are happy to host campers too. Watch this space...... If we make it from Le Puy, will give it a try.
I've searched fairly thoroughly but haven't been able to find a list of alburgues on the Camino Frances where one is allowed to camp in the grounds. Has anyone ever compiled a definitive list, please?
