Would love to hear personal accounts, especially from solo female walkers, on if they would suggest further postponing or going for it this fall. Good and bad, lessons learned, are so appreciated. (I plan to return for a solo walk in Sept/Oct as I did back in 2019, but for only two weeks this...
Thank you, will definitely check it out.
so true! I don’t have enough time to do a full route and am still debating which to take- might stick to Frances since I feel there will be more open places to stay - hopefully. I’ve done Sarria-Finesterre previously and am sure whatever I do will be...
Hi everyone, my apologies if this question has been addressed recently.
In light of Covid restrictions continuing indefinitely, is there an actively updated list of open albergues that includes restrictions (I.e.- book ahead, reduced numbers of bookings accepted, no dinners, etc.)?
I’m looking...
Is it best to call ahead or to look around once I arrive to the town I wish to stay in? I’m more concerned about the whole safety in numbers thing- don’t want to be the only woman staying somewhere each night.
It’s so weird bc many of the places I’ve gotten in contact with are closed until mid March... I just don’t want to be wandering about trying to find lodging and food especially in case of bad weather :)
Hi all! Having a tough time finding open lodging for the last part of the route beginning Sarria March 1. In addition,it looks like many restaurants are also closed. Is this generally a bad time to walk? I will be doing so solo and would love not to be totally alone the whole time... I may be...
Hi! I am planning to do part of the walk beginning March 1. I don't have more than four days and am thinking of beginning in Portomarin so as not to have too many long walk days. I will be traveling solo and am a bit worried about weather and or being completely alone on this part of the route...
I should add, that I am a distance runner, currently training for a half marathon, so I'd like to think that would help, fitness wise. However, definitely don't want to overdo it.
Thank you. It would be four full walking days, as day zero (so to speak) would be travel from Madrid to the starting point (still debating on whether to do a flight to Santiago, then bus, or just bus from Madrid as I would like to store my suitcase somewhere near Santiago for my outbound flight...
Hello! I know this is an older post, but just wondering how you did your trip, any tips? I too only have four days in which to do this route, solo, at the beginning of March. So, any help you may provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Great, thank you, that is good information. I'm trying to line up my days and I may only have four full days I can devote to this route- is there a suggested stop after Sarria wherein I could complete the remainder in 4 days without pushing it over the 22 km per day mark? I know I won't have...
After reading these posts it appears that most of the route is opening up early April and then more opens past Easter. Is it safe to say that the beginning of March would be less than ideal for the last part of the route, starting in Sarria? My only two options are beginning Feb 28 (I have 5...
Thanks all. Definitely nervous about the idea that “nothing is open” in early march, if not for anything but safety reasons. Do you have to make reservations ahead of time for places to sleep?
Hi everyone, I am hoping to do the final stretch of the walk beginning February 28, finishing no later than the 5th of March. As a solo female walker and it being still technically winter, is this a good time to go, or would it be better to wait until April? I will be traveling and in Madrid...
