    Tui to Vigo?

Well, I'm back and I've done it. It is indeed possible. I had a 600m climb first thing in the morning heading steeply up Monte Aloia where it was really cold. From there's a wonderful trail winding its way along the mountains. On 25th Dec however, there were many hunters also in the mountains...

    Tui to Vigo?

Thanks Stevov. I'm going to try it for my 4th Camino Portuguese. From Tui, it would be a climb of around 550m up to Monte Aloia. From there hiking trail #2 takes you right along the ridgeline and mountain tops to the outskirts of Vigo where it connects with hiking trail #1 before the autopista...

    Tui to Vigo?

Hola amigos, Although Ponte de Lima to Tui is a loooong day, the following stage from Tui to Redondela has always felt longer for some strange reason, although it is indeed shorter... perhaps because it feels harder on the feet. Setting Vigo as the destination is roughly 5km shorter than...

Spending New Years Eve on the Camino

I've walked the Portuguese twice over new years Eve. The first time I spent it in the really nice stone municipal albergue at Redondela with 8 other pilgrims. The city was pumping with action although there was an 8pm curfew.. Nothing a wedge of paper in the door won't fix . the second time I...

New Years Eve on the Camino

Hi Hi David, The coastal route out of Porto would be lovely in good weather, but I don't fancy a face full of sand for most of the first day. That I'll have to leave for another time, preferably not in winter. We'll be going one stop further on the metro from Porto though the first morning...

New Years Eve on the Camino

I promise you guys that I'll take plenty of photos and gather as much information as I can! I'm really looking forward to it!! :)

New Years Eve on the Camino

Should be starting from Porto on the morning of the 28th Dec., heading for Sao Pedro de Rates . Sao Pedro de Rates to Alto de Portela (Tamel). Alto de Portela (Tamel) to Ponte de Lima. Ponte de Lima to Valenca and so on via the new alternative route Camino de la Costa (ao Salnés).

New Years Eve on the Camino

Well I guess that counts Al! Last year I found myself in the Albergue in Redondela, with a handful of Brazilians, one Italian and a bottle or 2 (if I remember correctly) of bubbly. They imposed a curfew of 8pm on New Year's Eve, but we didn't have any plans of partying the night away anyway...

New Years Eve on the Camino

Hi Margaret, Yes, I remember the fort last time as I rushed by on the way to Tui after starting that morning from Ponte de Lima. That was a tough day. I regretted not stopping in Valenca last time, but it's something I will be making amends for in December. Thanks for the info, I'll be sure...

New Years Eve on the Camino

Here I am again, dreaming of all the Caminos I would love to walk if I had unlimited spare time in my life, such as the Mozarabe which hooks up with the VDLP, but realistically it would appear that the next Camino for me will be the Portuguese again over the christmas break. Last time I was...

    Re: Camino shop in Porto

Take everything you need with you. Do not expect to find anything of any real use along the entire Portuguese Camino unless you're in the market for a women's Nike sports handbag or a pair of football boots. Outdoor stores are nonexistant unlike on the Frances. Come already prepared!

    Getting from Porto to Tui

Try walking, otherwise you'll be missing the best part!

Walking Solo on the Camino Portugues?

Thanks Swessin, I'm glad you liked it and that I could share my experiences, and perhaps it may also help other pilgrims planning their Camino. You would be surprised at how tough you can be when walking a Camino alone. It's in everyone and if you're focussed and committed to your journey you...

    Alternate route to Porriño; waymarkers

Hey Diogo, I'm glad you like my blog. It was also fun writing it and it gave me something to do when I was sick and couldn't walk. No the GPS didn't work once and it only served to drain the battery which was better saved for taking pictures. In the end I just turned it off. I could be wrong...

    Alternate route to Porriño; waymarkers

Not a bad thing to have actually. On the few occasions I wanted to use my GPS, it wouldn't lock on to the satellites even though it had found up to 6. After a factory reset, things seem to be back to normal again. I could have used this on this section, as I did become a little lost towards the...

    Alternate route to Porriño; waymarkers

You will receive brochures about the alternative route in the albergues as far back as Ponte de Lima. The map is in there too, but the problem is knowing which arrows are deliberately false and which to follow. Yes, they have been spraying new yellow arrows to direct pilgrims past their...

Ponte de Lima - Santiago: March 1st 2014

Ponte de Lima to Tui was the toughest day for me, but fantastic. Needless to say I slept very well that night. It must have been something in the water
