I traveled from mid-April to mid-May from Porto to SDC, central route, with the spiritual variant. Tuitrans required that I give them my entire itinerary in advance and pay upfront (95€ for around 12 pickups?) I've done various Caminos often enough to know how far I like to walk, and I was able...
Thanks, @Corned Beef for this great option.
I got my credential by mail from Ivar, so I'm set, but I'm returning to Porto for 4 nights after my Camino. Wouldn't miss it!!!!
@Albertinho How did you get the horario you linked? When I plug in Povoa de Varzim and Barcelos on the transdev.pt website I get something different. Not wrong info but less info, e.g. mine doesn't include locations of stops.
Thank you @biarritzdon and @Albertinho -- super solution.
If I plug in Povoa da Varzim, Rome2Rio does recalculate with the bus option, and they also list Ovnitur as running a bus from the airport to Povoa de Varzim, but metro runs more often.
I'll be too tired to walk, as I never sleep on...
I fly into Porto next month but must transit to Barcelos to stay over and begin my walk the next day.
Rome2Rio suggests a taxi and gives links to several companies with widely varying rates.
(With the airport north of Porto proper going into the city and taking public transport to Barcelos seems...
I'm walking the Central and haven't walked the Coastal. I think you should ask your question in a more related thread so that the info appears there for everyone interested in your topic. As far as losing your money, ONLY book a fully cancellable option because none of us can predict whether or...
@bootscobler As far as reserving/winging it, it's impossible to predict how many walkers there will be on the Portugués this spring so I re-planned my canceled 2020 Camino by reserving everything through booking.com. I was surprised that many places I'd reserved in 2020 were filled three months...
Thank you for articulating what I've been thinking. Walking into Santiago -- celebrating with friends, sitting right underneath the butafumeiro -- was an unforgettable experience. But I'm walking alone this time and unless I connect with a group of trail pals I'm not sure I care about making...
Yes, I have a handsome Compostela at home, as well as my "Dual Pilgrim" certificate from Japan. I treasure them -- and the memories, which include an occasional hop onto a bus. I can't imagine anyone begrudging me a Compostela for a 10-mile Uber ride between Porriño and Redondela, but it's not...
@Pinker to -- Thanks for the comparison. Maybe it's a matter of whether I wake up wanting to climb or not!
@trecile -- Sorry, was trying not to overload my post with too much info.
I'm walking Barcelos to SDC, along the Central route, with a detour to the Spiritual Variant. For various reasons...
Hi everyone,
In order to accommodate my slower walking pace (and total vacation days,) I am planning to skip a night in Porriño and go directly from Tui to Redondela. Can you suggest the prettiest section for me to walk a maximum of 18k/11mi?
I see that the entry to Porriño has a nice detour...
@David Tallan and @auburnfive, I was thinking about switching to Hoka One or other trailrunners exactly the reason you describe -- extra cushioning on cobblestone/tile roads. But I'm concerned about rain. Which would provide more traction -- Hokas or my Salomon Outlines (lighter weight / Goretex...
Resurrecting this thread, as I'm having a hard time finding an overall description of the road bed between Porto and Santiago.
I've walked the Francés and the Kumano Kodo in Japan, so I've had my share of shale, Roman roads, packed clay, tree roots, and steep stone steps. I have about ten days...
