Return journey from Santiago to the north east of England

Whilst I am based in North Yorkshire I fly to and from Stansted Airport with Ryanair. I am doing this again in June, while I then need to return home on the train after a month away it isn't too much hassle. Not aware of Ryanair's flights in November but the one I am booked on gets me back to...

April 2024 - my first Camino from SJPDP

It is quite a day, especially as it is the 1st, but as you are "quite fit" then a) start early having checked the first km the night before so that you get a good start (do this every night as if you are to go wrong it is likely at the start of the day) b) take one layer of clothing off as you...

Hi! Walking the Camino "from my door" in small stages - anyone else?

I know that it isn't the same but I always start walking from home on my walking journeys no matter where I am going. It is only to the railway station to catch the train/plane to the start but I always decline my wife's offer to drive me there as I like to walk out of my front door with my...

    Senior on the Camino

It is difficult to give advice as we are all different. I walked the CF from SJPdP starting on my 75th birthday last year over 31 days ranging from 25 miles to 9 miles a day. Clearly, fitness is a major determinant but also a positive mind. I booked accommodation in advance all the way in...

Filming a Documentary - Camino Frances

Whilst not a documentary I presume you have seen the film "The Way".

    May 2023

I started on 12th May this year - whilst weather changes year by year it was hot, so hot that I was starting before dawn (such a lovely lady :D) and finishing very early in the afternoon. Reading this forum some pilgrims didn't make it so keep well hydrated, use sunscreen, and a wide-brimmed hat.

    Walking in May, 2022...

I am not surprised that it almost killed you! I don't think that I would have had the mental or physical strength to start again from SJPDP after walking the amount you already had!

    Walking in May, 2022...

I am not boasting, as everyone will be different, but I didn't find the walk from SJPDP to Roncesvalles too difficult/tiring. I was 72 at the time, I started at 07.00 and plodded up slowly taking short steps although it was hot, I was walking in shorts and a T-shirt. I got to my accommodation at...

    Walking in May, 2022...

I guess that there is no real answer as the weather is unreliable. However I started at SJPdP on 27 April 2019 over the Napoleon route, there was snow to the side of the path on occasions - just enough to take a photo so it looked harder than it actually was! But when registering at the Pilgrims...

I am sure we are all envious of you. Enjoy yourself, stay safe. Let us know how you get on. Buen Camino.

    Class of 2019

I am starting on 27th April from SJPdP taking 35 days, will we meet on the way or am I too far behind? However please make sure you leave some of the wine at Fuente del Vino!

    We booked our flight!

I am on a 35 day schedule leaving SJPdP on 27 April so get moving and catch me up!

Starting my first Camino 26 April 19

I arrive at SJPdP on 26 April and start the following day, booked in at Roncesvalles that night. Hope to see you somewhere along the route.

    Class of 2019

I did post elsewhere but perhaps I should have posted here - sorry! I start from SJPdP on 27 April and due to finish at Santiago on 30 May. Accommodation all booked but flight from London to Biarritz still to be booked. Looking forward to the company although I usually and very happily walk...

    We booked our flight!

I am walking it over 34 days arriving in Santiago de Compostela on 30 May. Setting off walking by myself, but probably not for long having read peoples accounts of the walk. Look out for 6'3" male, somewhat older than yourselves, when hopefully you catch me up - I'll probably hear you all coming!

    All booked

Walking CF arriving SJPdP on 26 April and starting 27 April 2019. Looking forward to meeting up with others along the way. I normally walk alone so this walk will be a "bit of a change"!
