Starting my first Camino 26 April 19

Larry Gordon

Feet don’t fail me now...
Time of past OR future Camino
Camino de Santiago (French Way) beginning in SJPDP 26 April 2019
I have been slowing acquiring my kit for the journey and I am getting excited. I depart from Tulsa, Oklahoma on 23 April, 2019 and plan to begin my journey along the Camino Frances starting from St. Jean Pied de Port on Friday 26 April. My objective is to walk to Santiago de Compostela, then continue on to Fisterra ending in Muxia. I hope to have time to meet friends in Llanes for a couple of days after I complete my Camino. I will then head back to Tulsa via CDG, my return flight is scheduled to depart CDG on 6 June 2019.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Fantastic you are in for quite a journey and there is no easy way to describe it but just let it unfold and go with how you are feeling on the day. Here is an unsolicited memory from me and that is that I did more hard walking (pavement and river beds) as well as longer up hill walks. You don't have to prep for the walk but it will make your journey easier for you until it prepares you for it.

Thanks!
I ride my bike about 75 miles a week and walk a few miles a day. As the seasons change, late fall, I will transition to a more walking oriented routine, with an emphasis on hills to prep me for the Pyrenees... My overarching concern is foot health. I have a well broken-in pair of low cut Keen trail shoes, but I am considering the purchase of a pair of trail running shoes.
Bien Camino

Be careful, this camino walking is very addictive!

You are gonna love it Larry

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Light trail running shoes are a great idea. They are comfortable, interfere less with your feet and natural gait, and, in my view, lightness counts when one is walking and therefore lifting one's feet thousands of times a day.

Have fun planning, enjoy the build up, then go with the flow and have a great Camino!

I would recommend also bringing along foot care items such as moleskins (my favourite) and other blister protection items. Even if you don't need them you will come across people that will, it is the way of the Camino to be there for each other.

Hi Larry, we arrive in SJPP on 27 April and start off walking in 28 April. Maybe we'll come across each other on the 'Way'. Buen Camino.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
You can obtain a free Credencial from American Pilgrims on the Camino (AmericanPilgrims.org) if you don't already have one. Hope to see you at the Gathering of Pilgrims in March! There's always a very emotional send-off and shell ceremony for pilgrims. Ultreia!

I arrive at SJPdP on 26 April and start the following day, booked in at Roncesvalles that night. Hope to see you somewhere along the route.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Larry!! I’ll be off the same day! Look forward to catching up at some point! Tom
