Greetings from Newfoundland! I walked the Portuguese in March this year. I walked up the coast from Porto to Vila do Conde and it was there that I turned east to connect with the central route at Arcos. I essentially followed the Brierley route along the river out of town with the river on your...
Hello Tamtam…..also from Eastern Canada. Welcome to the forum! Would recommend walking from Porto up to Santiago on either the coastal or central route of the Camino Portuguese. A really good all round introduction to walking the trail, lots of variety, no crazy peaks to cross and very well...
As Grousedoctor says above, I would suggest walking out of Porto towards the sea on the right bank of the river following the coastal route. I would then suggest crossing to the central route at Vila do Conde after a long first day or two days if you split it. I’m attaching a map of my favoured...
If you head to the Spanish Gates at the top of the town where the Camino route leaves SJPdP and turn right along the road out of town for about 200yds (temporarily off the Camino route) you will find a small bakery on the right hand side of the road. Open early and they sell the very, very best...
Good luck mate…..hello from Newfoundland. I walked the Frances in 2019 (life changer)……am booked to repeat in May/June this year…..booked and cancelled in 2020, cancelled again in 2021….. desperate to get back. Hopefully onto the Norte in 2023 but who knows? Buen Camino !
Starting on May 5th up the hill out of SJPdP….at least I hope so. Walked the Frances in May ‘19, booked and cancelled in May ‘20, booked again and cancelled in May ‘21….hoping for 3rd time lucky !
Bars Jubera and Soriano in Logrono…..best tapas on the entire trail. One focused solely on mushrooms and one on patatas bravas….just round the corner from each other. Microbrewery 4 Lions in Leon….fantastic APA on draft and each pint served with top end Serrano ham and crusty bread….can you...
Hello from Newfoundland…..I did complete the Frances in May 2019 and loved every step. Sorry you got defeated by your foot tendon, I would have been back May 2020 and May 2021 if it wasn’t for ‘you know what’…..I’ll definitely be back May 2022 and I’m convinced there’ll be no restrictions...
Visit Bar Soriano and Bar Jubera in Logrono....they‘re in the old pinchos area of town.....best two pinchos/tapas places on the Camino. The first specialises in patatas bravas and the second mushrooms......sounds simple but believe me, food for the gods !
I couldn't really find an appropriate place to write this, so I just chose 'miscellaneous'....hope that's OK.
All I want to do is put it out there how grateful I am for Ivar's Monday YouTube updates from Santiago....they are terrific. Informative, interesting, a real connection with the town...
Hey Mark......you’re going to have an amazing time ! If it is your first Camino Frances, take a listen to last Friday’s latest episode of ‘Camino de Santiago - Pilgrim’s Podcast’.....you’ll find it on the podcast section here or just google it. Me talking to Bradley Chermside for an hour on all...
Well done.....you won’t regret it ! The CCoP credential is very nice and official but is an alternative not a replacement so to speak. I also purchased one last year but ended up needing more space because collecting sejos is great fun and the credentials become great souvenirs. I filled two...
