I keep talking myself out of it....

Oh, and it doesn't have to be SO expensive. If you do the classic pilgrimage, stripping down to the minimum and swearing off the luxury comforts, you can do it very cheaply indeed and still have a whale of a time!

You are going to feel SO much better once you just up and book that airline ticket. You are obviously hearing the call. Why resist? What do you have to lose? Jump.

    Volunteering on the Camino.

You can also volunteer at the Pilgrim Office in Santiago de Compostela, filling in Compostelas for newly arrived pilgrims. Lots of people really enjoy that! Ask about that when you arrive there.

Anyone walking Camino Frances right now around Najera?

You are between waves, especially if you started off late today. I am not in that neighborhood, I am in the middle of the meseta, and have seen at least 10 pilgrims today. No worries.

    New old guy

Poker isn't huge among native Spaniards -- the people in the bars are playing Mus or Brisca, usually, or dominos. Their pack of cards is different from "the norm," too. You can probably scare up a Poker game with fellow pilgrims, but be careful when playing in Moratinos... Jorge, the guy in...

last week was stormy on the plains. Summer thunderstorms are perfectly normal. This week it's perfect walking weather. Just do it!

    Disc golf on Frances route

Everyone knows that medieval pilgrims used scallop shells as frisbees. The earliest Disc Golf course was recently unearthed at Finisterre, part of the long-lost Druid sports culture that later re-emerged in Scotland as regular Golf.

An open heart post seeking support

every day is a fresh start. Just step out and do it. All the past experiences, expectations, feelings, and experiences are just noise now. It is just you and the trail ahead. Shut off the noise and walk.

Winter walk on the camino frances

PLEASE bring proof of health insurance when you walk the camino, no matter where you come from. I took a very sick French pilgrim to the health center the other night. He had only his passport, no EHIC or other proof of insurance, and he was incommunicado. I had a helluva time with the paperwork...

what a lovely thread, thanks for sharing your journey with us. Just an FYI: there are albergues open all along the Spanish Camino Frances in winter. If you have a gadget they update this listing every couple of days: www.aprinca.com/alberguesinvierno/ ,

the best thing about July is the fields of sunflowers are in their full glory!

Winter walk on the camino frances

Plenty of hardy pilgrims out there in winter, you will not be alone. We celebrated New Year´s Eve in Moratinos with NINE pilgrims, and tonight there are 15 at the hostal!

We always pick the wrong line...Frances in July.

July is NOT the worst time to do the Frances. You´ll want to do your walking early in the day, but the days are long and the harvest is being cut just about then, so you will see lots of activity along the Way. Also, at least in the middle where I live, there are significantly fewer pilgrims on...

    Camino family Christmas escape.

Jenscamino, I am in Moratinos, right in the middle of the Frances, just before Sahagun. You and any other pilgrim is welcome, not just for the holidays, either. If you can cook, all the better! Let us know you're coming and we'll clean the place up a bit.
