Welcome to the forum. As a fellow Coloradoan, I've done both the Camino and the similarly long Colorado Trail. Although both were great experiences, I preferred the Camino. Buen Camino!
I'm at my dad's house (for a family funeral) and was finally able to lay my hands on a photo of me on the Camino. No beard anymore, alas. This was in O Cebreiro.
There will be a hospitalero training session in Santa Barbara, CA March 22-24, 2011:

(Followed by a general pilgrim gathering March 25-27, same place.)
I was living on Long Island when I walked the Camino a number of years ago. Much of the Camino Frances is like LI hiking (i.e. flat) but there are a few minor mountains to get across. Buen Camino! :P
Welcome to the forum. This is a great English-language resource for planning your trip. Skip around a bit and read what advice and opinion are offered. Except for plastic-bag-crinklers, we're a very accepting group. :)
Welcome to the forum, Tim.
Although I won't be walking when you are, I was about your age when I walked the Camino in 1988 from Pamplona to Santiago- it was an experience that has stayed with me to this day.
I wonder if a visit to the Cloisters might be a good "intro" to the Camino?
Best of...
Though I haven't done the Camino in the winter, I think a tough Colorodoan (like yourself) can tough it out! (The Camino is certainly a lot flatter...)
Spend plently of time researching on this site and you should have the necessary background to tackle the Camino.
Best wishes from a fellow...
Hi Dorthe,
Welcome to the forum. There's quite a lot of information and experience here already, so I'd suggest searching the existing posts before jumping in and posing questions. There are also a number of people on the forum who have walked El Norte (I, alas, have not) who can help you out...
No Hay de Que.
There's a old saying among the police in New York City (my hometown):
"Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear."
In the age if the Internet, I'd add an addendum:
"Double that thought."

PS: Lest you think me insensitive, know that I've been in public...
"Dude, what's with the tiny cars...? And the tiny houses...? And the tiny everything...? And why the gol durn don't these PAH-EE-SAHN-OHS don't speeka the English?"
(Seen too many ugly Americans in my day...)
Not rude at all, in my opinion. Spot on, actually.
I happen to be a police officer and I get caught in the middle of these all the time. And in my experience, when an adult goes missing, it's usually because they want to be missing.
I was wondering if someone was going to point out that...
I wanted to ask about the current state of two of my stopovers, the Ermita Virgen Del Puente and Foncebadon. From my journal:
"Camped out next to the abandoned building at Ermita Virgen Del Puente. Had a bath in the river and was pestered by mosquitos all night [I had shucked my tent by this...
I actually just bought the Spanish version (used) on eBay yesterday. It's the 1995 edition. I've given up looking for the edition I used in 1988- it had a red cover, if I remember correctly.
Hmm, I'll try to keep it short.
In 1988 I spent my junior college (Colgate U.) spring semester in Madrid. I attended the Instituto Internacional and one of my classes was on Spanish history. The professor said off-handedly one day while we were covering the Middle Ages something along the...
I found the name of the guy who ran the bare bones refugio in 1988- it was Ramon Sostres. I think I walked through the town of Torres Del Rio, not thinking it was big enough to be a town, and ended up at Sostres' house on the outskirts on the western side.
This is embarrasing. I just realized my first post to this forum contains an error- I walked in 1988, not 1987. Is there any way to change the title of this thread?
(A red faced) John
