I have never carried a hairdryer but if I had ever seen anyone carrying one I would have made friends with them pronto!
At the risk of making more generalisations, many women have longer hair than men. Especially when walking in cold weather it can be absolutely freezing to have a shower in an...
It is a sad fact that, probably because the camino is a test of physical (as well as mental) endurance, it does bring out an unattractive dose of competitiveness in some people - dare I say mainly men?!
This extends to Competitive Kit Weight Comparisons, Competitive Motives for Pilgrimage...
Hi Cliff
Welcome to the forum!
A good starting point for you would be to look at the Eurostar website for London - Paris trains..

Happy planning.

Re: Intoducing myself
Hi Andy,
Along with Johnnie, I am a fellow Scot so it is fitting that we welcome you to the forum on behalf of the international membership! (ok so I have a stupid english accent these days but I'm still a Moffat Toffee at heart..)
Learning Spanish is not essential but it...
I'm glad someone else has absolutely no idea what this is all about!!
My guess is it's something to do with the lyrics for a song...?
Or maybe its better just not to know!

Congratulations on your impending grandparenthood!
I am torn between wanting my kids to have babies whilst I am still young enough to be a super-involved energetic, granny and then wanting them so wait so they can experience all the wonderful things that are so much easier...
I was only able to do the camino in short stages too.
I suggest starting at the 'beginning' and maybe doing Roncesvalles to Logrono or St Jean de Pied Port to Pamplona.
I'm sure you will then get the camino bug and end up completing the whole route one way or another!
There are sevreal...
Hello and welcome to the forum!
Most of the questions you ask have already been answered on this forum and you can find the answers by using the search facility.
I would recommend that you consider buying the John Brierley guide book. There is a link to the publishers at Findhorn Press on the...
Hi Aussie Kerry.
Lucky you heading back to the camino! The popularity of the camino frances has grown so much over the last few years I am wondering how different an experience you will find it this time...
It would be interesting if you could report back with your impressions once you return...
A photocopy really does help if you lose your passport.
I had my passport stolen in Madrid and spent the best part of a day waiting around in the British Consulate for them to ok an replacement (which I picked up 10 days later).
I had the number of my lost passport written in my pilgrims...
What a great desciption! I know exactly what you mean..............
I am sure the excitement and adrenalin will provide you with unexpected surges of energy. In the early stages you will also see plenty of folk looking like very unfit wounded crabs and that will help make you feel very good...
Sorry to hear of your problem Fiona. I had a similar experience last year and was left with only 18 euros and no cards, passport, phone etc! I went to Madrid and applied for a new passport and had cash sent by Western Union. I returned to the camino and finished my walk and only then returned to...
Hi Niel
I remember that feeling! One thing to bear in mind is that in a hiking shop the weights they put in the pack are often sandbag type things. This means when they load 10k worth the weight is all loaded at the bottom and hence pulls down more heavily. When your pack is loaded with your...
I agree with Johnnie that having no plan is an enviable state! What a luxury to have no deadline to meet.
The VdlP is still only on my "to do" list so I cant offer any advice but wish you all the best and am sure the little waft of envy emanating from some of us stuck at home will help propel...
Hi Angela
I love your reason for walking the camino "because it scares me"!
I think a lot of us can identify with the need to put ourselves outside our comfort zone - I wonder why?? I may borrow this phrase when people ask me why I do it as it pretty much sums up how I felt when I set off for...
