I am sorry but I totally disagree with the comment "don't expect much great food." There are many excellent restaurants along the Camino. The menu del dia is world class quite often. I will however admit the pilgrim menu does lack some creativity but it is rare to find one outrageously expensive...
Cafe, OJ, pastry before 9am, breakfast after 9; midday for a substantial lunch is to sit down for a menu del dia around 1+ or grab a bocadillo. Spanish dinners are late, generally after 9pm or you can grab a pizza in the late afternoon. Tapas is always around most of the day.
As far as vacation ideas, I flew to the Canary Islands after one Camino and I have gone to Porto to start a second Camino several times but just going to Porto and staying for a few days can make for a wonderful vacation.
I would overwhelming recommend the Ingles at that time of year. I am not sure about how I would get from Madrid, other than the overnight sleeper train via Coruna.
So, do you have any really great investments tips 2025. I am all ears. The pouring rain referred to in NYSE comment was a huge cyclone off the coast of Spain for the past few days. It is now hammering the north coast of Brittany.
BTW, it is not a mountainous trek over the Pyrenees. It is a hike that many pilgrims do in less than day, while many chose to break it up into 2 days. It is a fairly steady climb for the first few hours and in total only about 25km and rises to 1400m between SJPdP and Roncevalles. You can do this.
Roots or Routes? My lineage goes back well before the time any foriegn invaders entered Scotland.. Then we lost an important war for our independence and were exported to the New World and became what are now know as impoverished "Hill Billys" in the mountains and valley of Appalacia,
If somehow Nick doesn't pick up on Laurie's message I will PM Nick and Wendy next week. Last I heard Wendy was off doing work in Africa but she might be back by now.
There are several places farther down the trail that I would chose to spend an extra day in. It should be based on what you are interested in seeing and doing. A wine tour adventure to Rioja from Logrono, for instance. Chill for a day in Fromista and take in several of their fine restaurants...
My only advice is to pay attention to the holidays and they are numerous in May and June. They can be a blessing if you want to participate and a curse if you are just wanting to move on!
There is an albergue in Lisbon. They are part of the association in Portugal you could PM them or @jungleboy who lives in Lisbon and writes about the Camino often.
