    European sim cards

    You can buy a SIM card on Amazon before you go from Orange, a French carrier. It will work in France and Spain. Social media apps have nothing to do with your SIM card. Your SIM is just your connection to the network.

    For my upcoming Camino I bought a Sim card for Orange. 20 gig of data to use over 30 days for a very reasonable price. Don't hog the bandwidth in albergues by using network intensive applications like video chat or vpns.

    I used Strava on the CF to track my walks. I added photos and a few notes and it became a bit of a diary for me to look back on after finishing. It worked well and I didn't have my data on, it used only GPS info to track.

    I'd be weary of wifi in cafes and albergues. Most of the places I stayed at had limited internet connections and they were overwhelmed with people hogging bandwidth. I'll be looking for a SIM with data to use with an old phone in Europe and use it as a wifi hotspot.
