Just a liner or sleeping bag? (Possible weather change)

I have used a lightweight sleeping bag in Andalucia in August and been cold.

    Poles or No Poles?

Completely agree. More people seem to be using them correctly now than was the case some years ago when conducting an imaginary orchestra was popular.

    Poles or No Poles?

    Amen!!

    Poles or No Poles?

That is exactly what I used to do and for the same reasons. Whether you need them or not is moot and may depend on what condition you want your knees to be in down the track when you are old and buggered, but still want to camino. I wish I had started using them sooner.

    Poles or No Poles?

    Couldn't agree more!!

    Merino wool shirt

I get my merino from: https://nznaturalclothingshop.co.nz/categories/mens/mens-merino-base-layers.html I use the MKM Active Range singlets and tees. Have never had a problem with holes or shredding. Lighter weight merino tees from another manufacturer shredded under my pack straps.

    Sandals vs. flip flops.

Do not wear cheap plastic flip flops on wet cobblestones. LETHAL. I walk in light boots and wear expensive non-lethal flip flops in the evenings. I do not wear footwear in the shower and have never had a problem - yet.

    What Size Water Bottle/s

I always take four half litre plastic bottles which I carry inside my pack, which keeps the water surprisingly cool.

How light was your backpack for Camino Frances (800 km)

Or what you want if you are capable of carrying it without too much physical grief. I carried 17 kg on my first Camino which was a struggle, but I managed. Nowadays I carry about 12 kg including food and water. As I get older and more buggered I will carry less, use transport, or stay home and...

    Every kilo matters

It only matters if it matters. If you are comfortable carrying 17kg, then why not? The slab of cheese and bottle of wine may make more of a positive difference to your experience. The weight thing IS important if, like me, you are old and buggered. Maybe if this is the case you should consider...

    Sick of Merino! Bamboo instead?

I wear merino singlets and tees on Camino and have done for years. The first brand I tried was very light and comfortable and was in shreds before the end of my walk. I now buy my merino from NZ Natural Clothing Co. The MKM Active Range. When I first bought them they were not advertised as...

    Hiking Poles

After many years of not using poles I now use them regardless of terrain and find them most helpful in easing strain particularly on my knees.

    Sick of Merino! Bamboo instead?

The only bamboo I have worn is underpants. They are the most comfortable I have ever worn. The make is Boody. 80% viscose, 13% nylon, 7% elastane. Made in China. I buy them from my local Health food store. They are expensive.

Good addition to a baseball cap

A ke ffiyeh would probably be most efficient as sun protection, but perhaps not wise in the current climate. I wear a boina on camino, which is not too hot as you might expect and which has been worn all across Northern Spain for many years, maybe centuries. You don't seem to see them much...

I've walked the Camino in barefoot shoes

I read a book some years ago by an Englishman who walked around barefoot. He particularly enjoyed squishy river flats and beaches. He wrote that it took only two weeks of training before he could comfortably walk barefoot. Here in Oz, summertime barefoot walking seems to have become quite...

    Gore-tex

I wonder how many pilgrims use gore-tex waterproof jackets and trousers and whether they are happy with them. I recall a post some time ago from a very experienced person who had been using the same gore-tex jacket for years and was still happy with it. I have a gore-tex jacket which I bought...

Hiking stick instead of walking poles

I used to use one pole and not often as it was principally for balance on steep descents and creek crossings. I, like many others preferred to have one hand free. I had also seen very many users of two poles using them incorrectly. Conducting an orchestra perhaps? Then I saw them being used...

To take a tent or not to take

The only pilgrim route where I have carried a tent was the Mary/Michael route in England. I used it twice. I have never needed a tent in France, Spain, Portugal or Italy. I have carried a sleeping mat and used it several times on several routes and would carry one again.

    Umbrellas

Truck backlash has destroyed two of my umbrellas. I now carry a Davek which is far more sturdy. I like the look of the clips, but haven't used them myself yet. I secure the umbrella handle under the chest strap of my pack which has worked so far. I suspect the clips will be better.

Can you convince me NOT to take paper copies?

How much paper and how heavy is it? I am a dinosaur
