An important detail here is that your phone must be unlocked -AND- a world phone.
My Samsung Galaxy phone was unlocked last year. Bought a sim card at the airport only to find out 45 minutes later it would not work. Barely made it to the train and bought a cheap phone in Pamplona. Luckily, it...
I forgot to mention, my other personal choice was a http://www.tilley.com/ Tilly Hat. A little pricey, but may be the last hat you will buy. I love mine. It worked with sun and rain. A couple Spanish friends I made thought I was was Australian or a cowboy, but they liked it as well.
There is a sunscreen called Vanicream. Our hematologist at Mayo Clinic recommended it as one of the best since it does not have all the junk in it and is very effective. After dealing with cancer and effects of chemo, it is important to have good protection.
Dermatologist Recommended.

I just bought a silk liner and REALLY want to use it. But it hardly seems warm enough. I found http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/us/traveller-50-sleeping-bag-p13098.aspx?cl=LIME which weighs only .65kg for $30 on sale worked really well. I walked in September last year and at the end of the...
Looks really tempting. I have a red Ferrino that ways more. A lot of days I kept looking at it and its weight and wondered... until the rain came and then came again the next day. A medium would have fit, but a member of this forum gave me a great deal and the large was great as it gave me more...
Because of my sore knee, I got my pack stripped to 5.6KG. This does not count water, food, poles or clothes I am wearing. I am still tempted drop the sleeping bag and go with a liner only, but do not like to be cold at night, so that may go after a few days as well depending upon comfort.
I always had a Gander Mountain nearby and so went there. Plus, it is where my credit card reward points are for and they were a past sponsor when I use to professional walleye fish. They have been the best on water shirts I found. I’ve also been to Canada almost every year for the past 35 years...
Very interesting question. Being a non walker and hiker, I had almost no gear. Buying socks has been insane as I have tried a half dozen pair and just this week discovered one that worked for me. It turns out my feet do not like wool! Anyway, now I am rambling.
The one main item I am taking is...
Great thread. Once again for us about to start a similar topic. I have Merrell Moab ventilators with blue Superfeet insoles. They seem to be a great combination until I hit the 15 kilometer marker. Then the balls of my feet start to feel bruised. I tried my running shoes, they are great on...
The conversation makes more sense if you stay what country you're from when buying a SIM card. Being from the USA the SIM card seems to make the most economical sense with my unlocked phone.
Cool, I was going to start a very similar thread. This past weekend I even got a heat rash from wearing wool socks. My feet were sore a day later.
I am checking out marathon runner socks. I was really curious if there are other people who have had the same issue.
Please be kind and post back...
Great list above. The mountain bag called Traveler 50 I got is $49.99 and 11-14 temp and weighs in at only 650g. As tight as I am when compared to $2,400 (two $1,200 airfare) to go from SJPP to Santiago it puts it into a an easier perspective for deciding.
I tested it out one night now and I am...
I appreciate the input. I have done a few 2 mile walks trying to break the soles back in. I'll try a couple 10ks by the end of the week. Even with the shoe being a half size larger, it still feel pretty good. I am trying a heel lacing system as well. I found a neat link at...
I have body glide, but not used it yet. I should have mentioned that the hot spot is in the center of the main pad of the foot. Everywhere else is good.
I have a pair of Merrell Moab ventilators a ½ size larger than my regular size and have been wearing smartwool socks with and without a thin nylon liner (leggs). Based upon my personal research this is what I think would best work for me.
The reason I mention brands is that I was a bit...
I just bought -another- sleeping bag from Mountain Warehouse. It was only $33 and weighs in at a low 655 grams. It is a 50f degree bag. This may be more of 1 season bag, but I figure you are sleeping indoors. It also shaved a 1/2 pound off the sleeping bag I had, that was a 40 degree bag. These...
Hi Tia,
Thanks for the tip. There was a sleeping bag at only .65kg for about $33. I figure I might as well check it out given the weight savings. Worst case, I know what my son is getting when we go on overnighters this summer.
Yay, My new addition by John Brierly just showed up today that I preordered so long ago that I almost forgot about it. It is 280 grams! That baby is getting digitized as a backup.
I have no ideas what the updates are, but it is all new to me, so you can guess what I’ll be reading this weekend...
