More thoughts on this - Poncho vs. Pants - Pants because they will keep your lower legs dry - otherwise, wet pants means wet shoes means wet socks and wet feet which means blisters. Rain jacket: 6oz - Rain pants: 3oz - It's cheap insurance - no fun being soaked, especially if it cools down while you are all wet.- nedjinski

Gossamer Gear backpack options
Another vote here for the Kumo 36 - at 23 ounces what's not to like? I modified mine to be more like an internal frame pack by inserting a piece of rigid ABS the same size as the foam, between the foam and the pack body. Much improved! Some people love Altras even though the tops are not very durable and shred over time - this is their biggest complaint. That and zero drop which is def not for everyone.- nedjinski
