I walked in May last year and the extra layers came in very handy. I found it really cold in the mountains.

    Breaking down the 1st Stage

Hi Livinha, I walked from Oviedo to Escamplero the first day. I stayed in the municipal albergue. It was a nice walk to ease into the camino. The next day I walked to Cornellana. Buen Camino Petro

Alone on Camino Primitivo September 2016

Hi, I walked the Primitivo in May this year. Leaving Oviedo I was unsure of the way at one stage. While I was still fumbling to get out my map there was a tap on my shoulder and an elderly gentleman pointed out the way! No problem!

Laurie, I know that you are passionate about all caminos and that you certainly would not want to make anyone hate a route! In fact, I have learned a lot from you about the various routes. All is well! Here's to many more happy caminos! Petro

Crushed rock fills the Camino Primitivo in Galicia

Hi Laurie, I did not want my comment to come across as a criticism of your observations. I do appreciate your concern about the impact that the "improvements" may have on the route. After walking the CF for the third time I realised that change is not always for the better and that my opinion...

Crushed rock fills the Camino Primitivo in Galicia

I have walked the Primitivo for the first time this May. After reading all the comments above I can not for the life of me remember any surface that I walked on that bothered me! :) I do remember the mud on the Friol-Sobrado route but that was part of the experience for me. I was so in awe of...

What is happening to the Primitivo?

Hi Stephen, I walked the Primitivo this May and it was not crowded at all. The only place that was busy was Berducedo - I did not book ahead but I found a bed in Casa Marques - it may be wise to book ahead for Beducedo to be sure of a bed after a hard day. Petro

    In Campiello

I took the hospitales route out of Borres. The uphill was relentless, at a particularly brutal section there was Jesùs handing out pieces of chocolate! The weather was good untill about halfway up when the clouds moved in. Then we had thick fog, wind and rain. At one stage standing at one...

    In Campiello

The Primitivo continues to surprise me. Just when I think it can not get better or more beautiful, it does. I walked to Campiello today and the route is stunning! Yes it was hard, yes there was mud but is all so worth it. The forecast was for rain but there was none, it was cloudy - perfect...

    In Oviedo tonight

Tonight I am in La Espina, staying in albergue El Texu. There was light rain for most of the day and it is cold now. The tracks were wet but not too muddy or slippery. I walked through beautiful forests and the route was mainly up! Not many pilgrims on the route. Last night 9 in the...

Hi Eloisa, I stayed in the Hostal La Peregrina (€7). It is not far from the cathedral - in the same street as Hotel Vetusta.
