Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

Thanks. I started looking at the Michelin guide today, for the route, not where to stay. I like the stage maps, because they are so easy to read. I’ve worked out a tentative itinerary, not to be locked into it but to know how much time to allow, when buying a plane ticket.

Wow, thank you, Kitsambler. Forewarned is forearmed.

Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

Thank you for your good suggestions. I have the Michelin guide you mention, although I haven't yet had a chance to get familiar with it. I've also ordered the Miam Miam Dodo, which so many pilgrims recommend. I haven't thought about taking short steps on ascents, but I'm sure that's exactly what...

Thanks. I’ve ordered the Miam Miam Dodo guide. It’s good to hear another endorsement of it.

Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

I agree entirely. I think I'll feel best knowing where I'm staying for the first couple of days, but then I'll decide day to day.

Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

Thanks. I don't think I'd regret it. Except that stopping there changes the second stop, doesn't it, and then everything afterwards?

Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

It's great to hear from someone else who prefers walking 7-12 mile days. I'm not going on from SJPdP to Santiago this time. I might even split the Le Puy into two parts and only walk half next fall and half in 2021. I'm still deciding. Are you looking at any possible itinerary suggestions for...

Starting slowly on the Le Puy route

I'm planning to walk the Le Puy route solo in Sept/Oct 2020. I've walked the Camino Frances (2015) from SJPDP. I've walked others since then, as well as the Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk, but I'm not getting any younger. I'll be 78 next fall, and I want to take the walk slowly, averaging 10...

How-to guide to the Le Puy route

Many thanks. That sounds doable then.😊 Challenging but rewarding for having met the challenge. I do appreciate your input, and I I can't tell you how much that relieves me. Thank you so much!!!! I'm already in love with walking this route and would be crushed to be deterred by my fears. Part...

How-to guide to the Le Puy route

It's not crime that I was referring to when I asked about being safe. I'm not at all concerned about that. I'm talking about the terrain. For example, on the walk to Finisterre last month, I had to cross a narrow log bridge with no railing, over a rushing stream. I was terrified and didn't think...

How-to guide to the Le Puy route

Thank you so much! Do you think it's safe for someone my age to do alone? I walked the Frances solo in 2015, but I had a companion on the Coast to Coast (10 years younger than me). I could never have done that on my own. There were places where my walking companion took my hand and helped me up...

How-to guide to the Le Puy route

Your guide is very, very helpful, but as I begin to dream of walking the Le Puy route, one question is niggling in the back of my mind. As background, I'm 77 and have walked the Frances, Portuguese and (just this fall) Ingles Camino, as well as out to Finisterre twice. And last year I walked the...

Thank you! This couldn’t have been more timely. I’m just starting to consider the Le Puy route for my next Camino.
