    Accommodation Inquiry

The busiest part of your walk will probably be up to Conques. After, the trail may thin out a bit. Many (most) of the French walkers ended their walks in Conques. When I walked from Le Puy in 2018, I would use the tourist information offices to assist with bookings for 2-3 days out. Gite...

    Camino Options

I have not yet walked from Geneva. I LOVE the LePuy route. Some of my favorite things are starting my journey at the cathedral in Le Puy after the morning mass, and walking into SJPdP, ending with mass in the cathedral. Those beginning and end points were very special and memorable for me...

    Advice for Restaurant Dinners

Consider referring to the Michelin guide -- I believe there are some along the Le Puy. I don't recall a bad meal along that route.

    Deciding among a few Caminos

Le Puy route is fantastic— but Cahors might be a stretch (definitely too fast for me, but I prefer to limit myself to 20 kms per day). Figeac or Rocamadour is definitely a reasonable option. Le Puy is a route best savored. :) The other routes are on my short list to-do, but have no experience...

Looking for advice about Camino Le Puy

Yes! The Le Puy route is everything! Yes to the morning Pilgrims Mass before departure (arrive in town early for some local tourism, too). Arriving in SJPdP by foot also filled me with joy. And the evening mass in SJPdP was worth the meditation time (I don’t speak French). I walked 5 years ago...

Best Time of Year to Start Camino Le Puy

Last week of August to first week of October, 2018. I recall some showers, and two full days of rain towards the end of September but the walk is so glorious I have only fond memories of those days. I'm only recalling one day where the heat was really getting to me (mid-Sept) at the end of the...

    Woman Alone?

I fully agree with the above comments. A couple additional comments that may assist— I met a good number of English speakers in Sept 2018. A note on Miam miam dodo is that it is also available as an ebook from their website. I seem to recall playing with some phone settings and many items in the...

    Starting September 8, booking accommodation

@Albertagirl you are right to plan shorter days — I know you’ve been walking a lot this past year but the first 8-10 days out of Le Puy are a bit hilly and worth planning 20k or less. Don’t push it. If you’ve got the time to spare, it’s totally worth it to enjoy the countryside.

    Starting September 8, booking accommodation

Hi! Walked LePuy route in 2018, not a French speaker, walked with a vegetarian friend, and I’m forced to eat gluten free. We used the tourist information centers in bigger towns to help us book +/- 4days in advance to ensure hosts could accommodate our dietary needs. Most TIs were very helpful...

Best time to walk the Le Puy

Hi Laura, many great recommendations here. My 2 cents: I started in September. Le Puy en Velay is a magical place and deserves some time to explore before departure. The morning mass in Le Puy was a highlight of my trip (even tho I don't know the language, it touched me deeply). There were...

Fear of heights and the Way from Le Puy

hi @tallrobert! I agree with all others that there should be few (if any) height concerns along the Le Puy. My recollection of the first several days where the trail is off-road and footing is poor, is that there are almost always alternate paths (including the choice to stick with the road)...

    Struggling on the Le Puy

Dear Erin, Today I am packing. I fly to Porto on Monday, and I am already carrying too many burdens on my shoulders... we will see what the Camino will bring. I'm just hoping for Peace. So, thank you for your generous honesty. It -- and the fulsome responses you've received on this site -- are...
