This thread discusses how to get from Biarritz Airport to Saint Jean Pied de Port (SJPdP)

Biarritz Airport is the closest airport to SJPdP.

Biarritz Airport (BIQ)

Chronoplus #14 from Airport to Gare de Bayonne
http://www.chronoplus.eu/

SNCF TER Aquitaine. Train service from Gare de Bayonne to SJPdP #62. Sometimes train service is replaced by a bus that operates on the same schedule with the same stops using the same tickets. Note the station name is 'Saint Jean Pied de Port' ... the website does not recognize 'SJPdP'.

A section of the tracks between Cambo les Bains and SJPdP was washed out in Spring 2014 and subsequently was repaired November 2015.

Alternatives are:

Transport64 - Bus service from Gare de Bayonne to St Palais #811. St Palais to SJPdP #810.

Express Bourricot, based in SJPdP, offers 'person transportation' service to and from Biarritz Airport as well as any other location in the region. This service is essentially a private hire taxi and must be arranged in advance. The cost goes down as the number of passengers goes up.

Biarritz Airport Transfers, based in Biarritz, provides taxi and transfer service from Biarritz Airport to SJPdP.

Note: it is possible to take Chronoplus bus C from Biarritz Airport to Gare Biarritz then take an SNCF train from Gare Biarritz to Gare Bayonne. This is faster than Chronoplus bus 14 from Biarritz Airport to Gare Bayonne though bus 14 runs more frequently than the train ... if you are on tight timings it might work.

Another option for arrivals short of time is to take a taxi to Cambo les Bains and intercept the SNCF TER service to SJPdP from there.

Use the SNCF station sites to get oriented before you travel.

Any recent updates on the state of the tracks? Is the Biarritz - Gare de Bayonne - SNCF TER Aquitaine - SJPdP route up and running again now?

Veronica,

The current TER Aquitaine line 62 schedule shows a combination of train from Bayonne to Cambo les Bains and TER supplied bus from Cambo les Bains as being the travel combo until July 4, 2015. The schedule for later travel has not yet been issued.

For this trip you purchase a ticket (roughly 10 euros) at the Bayonne railroad station (Gare SNCF Bayonne). The same ticket will cover both travel on the TER train and travel on the TER supplied bus.

Bon voyage,

Margaret Merdith

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

@mspath Thank you so much for the information update Margaret!

We plan to take the train (or bus?) from Bayonne to SJPDP on Sunday, April 24. Are we advised to book the tickets in advance or not worry and just pick them up at the station on the day we want to travel? I see I can actually buy them online right now if I want. We will be in Biarritz (with a car) for 3 days before we head to SJPDP. Thanks!

You do not need to purchase the TER railroad tickets in advance for Bayonne to SJPdP. There are no reserved seats on those trains; seating is open as on a tram. Tickets can be bought at the Bayonne station the day you wish to travel.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I was wondering how long a taxi would take from the airport to Bayonne. my flight arrival time only give me an hour to get my rucksack which will be in the hold and get to the train station for the last train.I don't think its viable and may need to sort a different place to stay. Any advice would be welcome

Take the Chronoplus bus 14 from the Biarritz airport to Gare SNCF Bayonne. In Bayonne the Hotel Monte Carlo is good inexpensive choice located opposite the Gare/rr station. Nice cafe and resto also. Here is their web . Next morning take the first TER line 62 train to SJPdP. No need to reserve.

Buen camino!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

You can try taking a taxi from the airport to Gare Biarritz. Take 1745 - 1755 train from Biarritz to Bayonne and transfer to 1806 train to SJPdP. This still depends on your being clear of the airport with sufficient time.

Another last gasp idea is to take the taxi to SNCF gare Cambo les Bains where the train to SJPdP passes through at 1834.

Either way its a game of minutes ... and not basis for a dependable plan.

Thanks for the info, I think I will stay in Bayonne for a night and take a morning train otherwise I will stress the whole journey. about times

Very wise I'd say. Take a short tour over the river to the Bayonne cathedral in the afternoon, nice dinner and next day you'll have most of the day for some sight-seeing in SJPdP. It's worth it.
The day after you'll start your Camino fresh and relaxed

Thanks for this info!! The last 2 Caminos I flew from India to Paris, then train to SJPDP.
This time, I'm planning: fly to Biarritz, and train to SJPDP! (Goddess willing!)

Thank you for this thread! I'm flying into London. Then London to Biarritz arriving at around 4pm. I was stressing myself out thinking about taxis and hooking up with a train after all that travel. Express Bourricot looks like a wonderful option because I want to arrive in SJPDP calm and ready to start off right. It looks like I'll be arriving at a time when they'll book solid so I can get a nice cheap rate!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

If not already, be sure to book ASAP; they get filled in advance and some have been unable to get a seat with EB on the date and time they need.

It was 1 euro in 2012. Fare was paid cash to the driver. He wasn't happy breaking my large note. You might want to confirm with Chronoplus website.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Or you can walk to SJPdP from Biarritz-Bayonne in three days. Why not start your Camino where you first land?
