A funny story...

Time of past OR future Camino
June 18 (2016)
So, I am a windowed mother of two beautiful grown girls. When I made the decision this past summer to walk the Camino after watching "The Way," I told both girls... they had mixed reactions.

Youngest: Okay... who are you going with?
Me: nobody. I'm going to do this on my own.
Youngest: ARE YOU NUTS!
Me: possibly... but I have to do this, so I'm doing it.

Oldest: Okay Mom, have fun.

A few months later, I sat with my oldest daughter and watched "The Way" with her... Halfway through the movie she turns to me and says, "Wait, THIS is what you're doing?!?" I said, "Yep," with a wide grin on my face feeling the excitement even back then.

Her response....
"I thought you were driving an El Camino across Spain! I was thinking, Okay, if Mom wants to drive a crappy car across Spain, who am I to say no!" I laughed so hard I cried!

We have since had a couple conversations, she was worried at first, but trusts Mom to be smart. The youngest still isn't won over but she's resigned to the fact that this is something I HAVE to do. I still chuckle about the crappy car though :)

June 16th I fly out of Boston to begin my very first Camino. I'm incredibly excited (today) and (sort of) enjoying the roller coaster of having bought my tickets 151 days before leaving! I'm now down to 110! After that, I'm thinking the Camino Portuguese for next summer. Still no El Camino drives in my future ;)

Buen Camino

Oops, I misunderstood and thought you were on it last summer. Maybe your girls will send you with an El Camino bumper sticker, or wait, pm me and I'll send you a picture of one for your trip :)

Hey there, WAIT A MINUTE, an El Camino is NOT a crappy car! I LOVE my '73 silver/grey El Camino, picture attached. And better yet, guys love it.:D20140324_175657.jpg

Seriously, what a funny story. I hope your daughters know they raised you to be a strong, confident woman, just like them, right? Buen Camino!

Driving an El Camino across the Camino would be something.

How funny!!
When I told my 2 sons I'll walk the Camino Frances in 2013 from SJPP by myself here's their response:
Oldest son: you won't make it, Mom-that's a lot of walking at your age (I was a young 69 yo).
Son #2: if you really want to do it Mom go for it -just be careful.
Oldest son: ok just do 1/3 each year then come home.
My reply: what if I die next year-then I won't be able to finish my pilgrimage!!
Son #2: Mom has 1 year to prepare so I think she'll be ok.
Oldest son: (groaning) ok, ok.
Husband: why are you 2 arguing? You know when your mom makes up her mind not even the Pope can change her mind.
End of Discussion.!

Hi all, I’m starting my Camino Frances on May 12. I’ve booked my first night in SJPDP, but I’m starting to worry I need to book more. My plan was to take it day by day and just turn up, but lots...
Hello all. Here to give a brief account of my (and many others) first day on the Camino on May 1. The trip to Roncesvalles was tough. I went Valcarlos route because napoleon was very ill advised...
Did you meet Bjørn Krohn? Died aged 48 in an albergue, I don't know where, tuesday 21th. I didn't know this until now.
Seems to be a lot of people posting about stuff they lost on the Camino recently. I managed to leave a nice new-ish polo shirt somewhere drying and didn't notice for over a week. I hope someone...
I am wondering how you disconnect, in part, from the world. I have a couple of reasons that I need to be accessible but, I don't want to be constantly connected on this journey. Ideas?
Can anyone tell me if food is available there… anyone stayed recently? Cheers
