Time of past OR future Camino
April, 2018
Hello Everyone!

After a decade or so of dreaming about it, the time is finally here to make the dream come true and walk my first Camino in April :)
I've been reading the forum for a couple months now, and have learnt a lot from you all (Trail runners instead of boots?! There is such a thing as waterproof socks?! Having my own clothesline in/on my backpack?! I can pee standing up?!!!:p ) and I've laughed a lot with you all. Thank you for all the good tips and laughs - I feel so lucky to be in such great company, before I have even set foot on the trail!

I'm very excited and looking forward to getting to know some of you in person in a couple weeks time!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I've just realised that in all my training I haven't practiced peeing standing up !! At least now I know how important waterproof socks are going to be.. here's me thinking they were for snow/rain..

ROFL

I don't know, how you could have missed such a crucial part of the pre-Camino training regimen  It's not too late, though, get on with it :p Oh, and btw, thank you for pointing out another great use for the waterproof socks, lol.

Hope to meet you in April, Andy!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Buen Camino! I’m sure you’ll find it worth the wait. You seem to have a good sense of humor. That will do you good on the Camino. Laugh often and soak it all in.

Thank you, Tom! I have great expectations of good walks, great company, beautiful vistas and nice wine - and well, laughter is the best, especially if rain, blisters, aches, whatever seems to shadow those expectations. Last week we went on a 4 day hike, with me proudly clad in my new trail runners - and after a few hundred meters realized there was 10-15 cms of snow in the mountains still... 1 hour in, feet wet and frozen, but we were laughing our heads off on things like coming down the slope like a snow leopard, whenever one of us took a spill and placing bets on how much water my new shoes can hold ;)

I start my first camino on April 26. Drying socks is a problem. Of course, have lots of pairs. I plan to hang wet socks (not underwear) from my day pack with safety pins and let them dry as I walk. Buen camino.

Lia ~ Wishing you a wonderful journey. I remember still so vividly that first day setting out from SJPP with so much anticipation of the unknown ahead. Buen Camino!!I

Me too I’m also starting on 4/26/18, God willing we will meet.

I leave SJPdP on the same day, Lia, so I'll probably see on the road sooner rather than later! Buen Camino:)

Well, I kinda have a feeling, that after a couple days of walking, I won't care about hanging my bloomers as a flag from my backpack :-D
As for drying socks (or whatever othr garments) though, I find it helps a lot, if after washing and wringing them, I fold them inside my towel and wring them again.

Hope to see you on the way! :)

Thank you, Theatregal! The anticipation is real  But so good all the same

Buen Camino! What a great feeling it is, to know that the Camino will be for real, after so many years of just being a dream. Think of that when you take your first step off SJPP.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I can relate to all. The learning thru the forum, the excitement of the first step in SJDP, Buen Camino.

Thank you, Irenek, I'll surely do that :) Just 4 more days... butterflies already partying hard ;)

Enjoy Lia :)

PS: I've used a 'she wee' before bush hiking in Tasmania, Australia...I'm not planning on bringing it on the camino though...bit too exposed I reckon! Had a laugh at Andywild's waterproof sock suggestion though!

I am starting out from SJPP on the 26th so I may see some of you. I am very slow on the ups!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Enjoy Lia :)

Thanks :)

PS: Turns out it doesn't work for me - maybe I'm just too clumsy, but after 3 tries and 3 consecutive wash cycles, I've just decided to use the good old squat behind a bush method ;-)
