We will begin our walk to Santiago in Ponferrada on April 29th. Are the accommodations in all Albergues in large rooms, or do some have private rooms? If we desire a private room, will we need to rely on Hotels for privacy?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

@tpatnode, you'll have lots of options - albergues (municipals, donativos, and privates - the latter frequently have private rooms) but also casa rurales and hostals (and AirBnBs, too).

To get an idea of what's available, check out Gronze.com - it's in Spanish but full of info and you can google translate it. For example, here's the page for Ponferrada. You can easily see your options and click through to find out more.

Usually you will have to go to private hotels for privacy for two but it is quite reasonable. In Portomarin, I stayed at the Pasino a Pasino which was very lovely and very easy to find, and we had a room with 3 beds so you could stay there and pay for the 3 beds if the camino is not too busy and it means that you are not depriving another person from a place to sleep. The young owner was very nice. The real spelling is Pasiño a Pasiño which means One little step at a time. In Santiago, I stayed at the Seminario Menor which is a 15-minute walk to the cathedral but I had a private room (for one person) for about 17 euros. There is a great kitchen there. If you are walking with another person, you might enjoy the privacy the last night or two... There are lovely rooms all along. Look on Bookings and then find the place online or in your guide book and reserve directly; you will save about 20%.
