Thanks in advance for any help you can give. I will be traveling from Madrid Barajas to Ponferrada on May 11. Alsa's website shows that almost all seats are sold on their departures. I have been trying to do an online purchase but the site will not accept my US passport number (I assume this is the right number for the document field). Does anyone have any insight into what I may be doing wrong?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I looked at 1745 bus ... only half the seats are sold. Then I looked at 1100 bus from Moncloa and it was for the last seat ..

I selected 'passport' as document type and entered my Canadian passport number in the field to the right and it was accepted ... albeit I didn't finish the transaction beyond that point.

There are lots of buses ... even as that may mean you have to go to one of the other bus stations ... so I wouldn't worry too much about buying at time of travel.

I never had a problem getting tickets online with Alsa. Are you sure you have all the numbers inputted? Might it be your credit card? Did you try checking out with paypal instead?

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what the problem was but when I switched from my tablet to my laptop I got an entirely different view of the seats available and, as you said, there are seats available. I'm still not able to input my passport number (I even had another person try and still no luck). I wouldn't have worried but coulnt
Thanks for the replies. I had been searching from my tablet, then switched to my laptop and got completely different results, showing plenty of seats. I still couldn't get the ALSA site to accept my passport number despite several tries on three different machines. I think I'll just show up and hope for good results.

I wouldn't have even tried except for not being able to get a ticket from Ponferrada on last year's leg. Thanks again for your help.

You might want to contact ALSA ... they are good for responses ... and ask why their site won't accept your passport.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
