Hi I am think of doing the northern root. Flying to Asturias airport and walking along the coast. Has anyone done this? Also I am going in August, the only time I have off. Anyone want to come along?

If you're refering to the airport in Oviedo, Asturias, you may want to check out the Camino Primitivo, the original Road to Santiago. It starts there and I believe it may be doable for your proposed dates.

Here's an anecdote. There's a verse in Spanish that goes like this:

"El que va a Santiago
y no va al El Salvador
visita al criado
y no al Señor."

I'd translate it roughly as:

"If you go to Santiago
and you don't visit El Salvador (The name of the cathedral in Oviedo, called "The Savior")
visits the servant
and not the Lord."

The Camino Primitivo leads to the end portion of the Camino Frances and on to Compostela.

Another possibility may be reaching Lugo, staying at the albergue there (a nice one), then hopping on a bus the following day, to Ribadeo, by the coast. It's the end portion of the Camino Norte. Great site. From there you can enter Santiago. I did it, it was great.
