Barcelos was having a huge May 1 celebration when we passed through. There was a major unveiling of a sculpture titled Peregrina the following day—very big event. We weren’t there, so I lifted a picture from the news coverage. I’ll be interested in the reactions of those that pass by and get up close and personal with it. I’ve posted the before and after.

Some in the past; more in the future!
Thanks for posting this. In light of some of the conversations we’ve been having here recently, this is quite interesting to me. A statue like this serves to further ‘pilgrimify’ or ‘francesify’ the CP and this in turn will continue its recent growth. Taking a selfie with this statue might quickly become a tradition, and these are the types of things which will help give the CP some of the pilgrim ‘credibility’ that some (including me) have said that perhaps it lacks compared with the CF.

That’s very cool because Barcelos didn’t feel like a pilgrim town. I was not as overjoyed as that statue is when I walked into Barcelos lol. I had blisters, lost the tips of my poles, walked the wrong way for several miles just before Barcelos. I’m pretty sure I was crying through Barcelinos.

Oh that’s cool! Thanks for sharing. I’ll be there in a few weeks so keen to see it. Taking a closer look at the unveiled statue, I note she’s got loose sleeves but the chest area is …surprisingly tight! Was there a plaque explaining the story of the statue?

Too many and too often!
. I was not as overjoyed as that statue is when I walked into Barcelos lol.
I've only seen the photo above but I must say I have been having trouble deciding what emotion she is expressing. Could be joy. But exasperation might fit too! Maybe it is clearer when you are actually there with her!
