Bayonne to SJPP

I had a lot of fun trying to get us from Amsterdam to Bayonne in one day. I finally achieved it. We arrive in Bayonne at 8:30 pm.

I just found out if we STAY on the train, we'll arrive in Hendaye. Does this make us closer? How do we get from Hendaye at 9 pm to SJPP?

Help?

I'll keep looking, maybe I'll find it.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Deborah,

Bayonne to St. Jean Pied de Port is ± 1hr50 mins by train.

http://www.sncf.com - The last train seems to be at 18h11 from Bayonne.

You could possibly get a taxi to St Jean from either Bayonne or Hendaye if you don't want to waste another day.

Try mailing the St Jean tourism web site for info on taxis:

Good luck Deborah! Where there is a way....!!

I recently made the trip and came to Biarritz (which is basically also Bayonne) too late to catch the afternoon train. Well, my two options were staying overnight in Biarritz or grab a cab. The cab was 90 euros, but as we turned out to be four heading the same direction, knowing the prices for hotels in Biarritz/Bayonne, the choice was simple. It is not that far, approx 60 km.....
Anyway, it seems to me you will easily catch the train....
Buen Camino!

Sorry.....there is a "slight" difference between pm and am.....
Arriving that late in the evening it seems to me you either take a cab to SJPP or stay over night in the Bayonne area, catching a train in the morning. My recommendation is then to head off and stay over night at the refuge of Orisson (if you plan on the Route Napoleon). Arriving at Orisson, approx 9 km from SJPP you have completed the hardest (or rather steepest) part of the route to Roncesvalles. Crossing the Cize Pass is great!

Thanks for the info. This is a very interesting idea and you would have laughed to see our eyebrows raise when I read it out loud to Joe!

Hey, so what is there to see in SJPP? Does it take more than a morning to explore before heading out to Orisson? And the Pilgrim's Mass... we'd really love to attend that. What time does it occur?
