Booking a bed in SJPP???

Hi Pilgrims!

I'll be arriving in SJPP on Sunday evening August 25th to start walking my first full Camino the following day. I'm just wondering if I should book a bed in a hostel for the first night or is it common practice to just turn up ad get a bed in St. Jean?

Feedback much appreciated.

Excited nubbie!!! :p

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Some of the albergues keep a few beds for people arriving from afar, but it would be better peace of mind for you to book a bed.
Try Esprit du Chemin: http://www.espritduchemin.org/en/reservations
Auberge du Pelerin - http://www.aubergedupelerin.com

If you intend walking to Roncesvalles in two days you should consider booking ahead at Orisson as well. Refuge Orisson: refuge.orisson@wanadoo.fr You'll have to the €32 pay upfront via Paypal as it includes dinner.

And, you can even book a bed at the albergue in Roncesvalles. You'll have to deposit €10 in their account and the costs to do that can be double the cost of the bed!

Have a wonderful walk!

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and help! Yes I think I'll reserve a bed in St Jean before I arrive just so I have peace of mind when I land.

Thanks again ;-)

Should people book a bed no matter the time of year? Or only during the busy summer months?

The very popular L'Esprit du Chemin closes at the end of September, so you cannot reserve there:
40, rue de la Citadelle
64220 St-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France
tel. +33 (0)5 59 37 24 68
info@espritduchemin.org
open: 29 March - 28 September

The Pilgrim Office will find you a bed anytime during the year. No one sleeps on the street!

I just checked out L'Espirit du Chemin and it's full for the next few weeks. So I've booked into Auberge du Pelerin for my first night of my pilgrimage.

Thanks for the heads up. X

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
