Buying a SIM card in SJPdP?

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
If you have a newer phone with esim capability, you may want to consider using an Airalo or similar data plan. (https://www.airalo.com/blog/using-an-esim-for-the-first-time-what-you-need-to-know)

For Spain, the cost is $26 for 20GB of data, good for 30 days. You can download and install before you leave home. Since it's data only, you'll need to use WhatsApp or similar app for calls. It appears that WhatsApp is well supported by accommodation providers in Spain.

Wow! Thanks very much for the info fortunately I have recently purchased a new phone. Lots to learn before my trip!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi everyone!
Is it possible to buy a SIM card in St. Jean Piet de port?
I don't know the answer to your specific question, but it's worth remembering that St Jean is in France and you will spend most of your journey in Spain.

A French SIM will definitely work in Spain, but you may be restricted in the amount of data you can use in other EU countries (eg Spain). Unless you intend to spend a lot of time in France, I recommend getting a Spanish SIM once you reach Spain.

I think Pamplona is the first city with mobile outlets. I used Orange.

good advice! Thank you

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Orange is France-based but all over the place in Spain. I used them on my second Camino, back when one had to physically swap the SM card and it was painless. The eSIM option now is great. Look for a kiosk at the airport to save time.

Do you know if there is an esim for Spain and Portugal?

If you go to the Airalo website you will see that they have regional (all of Europe) or individual country eSims.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

On six Caminos I have never bought a sim card. Free wifi is abundant everywhere especially on the Camino Francis route.
So unless you need to be frequently in contact with people at home as a business owner or such, don't bother.
Some think they need a web based travel maps, so lots of data. A paper based guide has always worked fine for me.
Honestly, I try to absolutely minimize phone or tablet use while on Caminos to the point of once a day or not at all if possible.
A break from technology enhances the Camino experience. Make new Camino friends and don't waste your time posting to Facebook or such.
No one understands or appreciates a Camino back home unless they have walked one.

Camino apps like Wise Pilgrim and Buen Camino have maps that can be downloaded and used offline with no data or WiFi.

You can also download sections of Google Maps to be used offline.

Good to know, but I like to take a break from tech on the Camino, but I'm an old fart so definitely in the minority I realize!
