August 2019. Very interesting place. I enjoyed my stay in Cacabelos very much. I met Santiago who makes a delicious chicken meal. We talked for what seemed like hours, him sharing his family history with me. Very interesting. I also met my bunk mate Estella. Her and I used Google translate (to Spanish) to get to know one another. She bought me a Coca Cola, I’ll never forget her kind spirit.

How wonderful I have had a reminder in my calendar to check when this albergue would re-open and I am thrilled to hear it has. It is on my "list" of places to stop next year. Thanks so much for sharing.

If this is the same Santiago in Cacabelos I think it is...I am thrilled for all of you who get to meet him!! 🥰

I never have, but my husband did last summer. We think of him every time we make Korean noodles at home, with his tips both culinary and otherwise, including some very helpful life advice. The restaurant was called "El Mono del Camino" and it was awesome.
