Camino by Motorcycle

Hi there,

My boyfriend and I are planning a tour of northern Spain on a motorbike this August and wanted to incorporate part of the camino.

Does anyone know which is the best route to take by bike? I have just purchased 'The Way of St James' - A Cyclists Guide which outlines the Camino Frances.

We will be taking the ferry to Bilbao.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Hi,
Please, may I suggest that you stick to the tarmac whichever route you chose, lest you learn some Anglo Saxon phrases.

Hi,

I would suggest that you take the A6 from Bilbao direction Santander and if you want to do the pelgrims who are walking the North Route a pleasure......... stay on that A6 motorway!

The route of the camino can be closely followed by car or bike if you stick to the road. I would suggest going South from Bilbao to Vittoria and Santo Domingo and from there to Burgos. From Burgos to Leon the camino goes via Carion de Los Condes. None of the route thus far is particularly good on the road though the towns are. From Leon to Santiago is via Villafranca and Sarria and the scenery is much more interesting on this section.

I hope you have a good holiday and maybe join us on the path on foot or bicycle sometime in the future.
