Camino from Bayonne to Irun?

Camino del Norte
Dear fellow pilgrims,

I'm going to do the Camino del Norte in about a week. I arrive at Bayonne. I was wondering if I could start my camino from there. My initial plan was taking the train from Bayonne to Hendaye but I was wondering if it could be possible to walk this route in some way.

As far as I know, there is no direct route going from Bayonne to Hendaye. But I could potentially walk the Camino Baztan until Souraide and then join a way from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Hendaye. The problem is that I do not find much information about the SJPDP>Hendaye route.

Is there a way to walk from Bayonne to Hedaye?
Is there more information on the SJPDP>Hendaye route? I've heard about the GR10 but that is not what I'm looking for. There should be an easier way...

Kind regards

Hi Mjak, there is already a thread ,"Walking Bayonne to Irun 22/07/2014.Scroll down to a post from Loving Kindness 22 May 2016
where she has listed all the info you require for this route.Hope this helps.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
That's the Camino of the French coast or littoral. I've cycled it, it's a pretty route. The Confraternity of St James has a guide, and so does the local pilgrim association. Not much pilgrim type accommodation, though.

Thank you! To be more precise about not trying to do the GR10: I said it because the website of the 'Flemish Compostela Society/Company' talks about it on their website (it contains a map). Translated by deepl:

I was looking for someone that may know other resources for this trail.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Thank you! I did not find that post. My forum searching skills are not the best I see

Oh, I didn't know the Camino Littoral existed. Thank you!
For people that will find this thread, more information from The Confraternity of St James here

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi, I’ve walked from Bayonne to Irun. I stayed at Hotel Les Genets in Anglet, then walked about 23kms next day to Ciboure (stayed at the Ibis Hotel), then about 18kms next day to Albergue Capitan Tximista, avoiding the centre of Irun. There is a regular ferry from Hendaye to Hondarribia. See attached pdfs. I started on the coast near Bordeaux. I wrote about it here:

Thank you for you reply, this is very valuable information. I will most likely walk this way.

Is this path marked?

Is this path marked?

Yes, it is way-marked, but you need to stay focused, as it’s not always obvious which way to go. Just keep the sea on your right! I had the printed maps with me as well, and MapsMe is useful to have on your cellphone. (Once the area map is downloaded you can use it offline.)

From Bayonne to Irun there is marked way called Via de Bayona (continuing from Irun to Burgos). I walked it in 2016. You can PM me your e-mail and I can send you the material I got at the time.

Hi Mjak
The French site aucoeurduchemin.org has an English translation and describes the Voie de la Côte from Bayonne to Hendaye.
Bon chemin

Thank you all for the replies. I will take the Voie de la Côte from Bayonne to Hendaye.

I’ve only walked the last part from Urrugne to Hendaye and it was pleasant and somewhat suburban, little satellite villages and a feeling of gentility (compared with further inland).

I would appreciate receiving the same information because I plan on starting from Biarritz to the Norte. Thank you. Terry

I walked with the Baztan Five from Irun up to Biarritz, then we caught a bus to Bayonne. Big fun, beautiful trail, but I wouldn't want to try it in bad weather!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Try this too.
It’s in French but a lot is self evident.

Send me your e-mail address via PM through this forum (don't post it in here).

This stretch is very beautiful, but book ahead, as otherwise finding a room can be very pricey along the Voie Littorale!
