Camino Portuguese, June 2014 - My daily blog (Lisbon - Santiago)

Hi fellow pilgrims,

I completed the Portuguese way from Lisbon to Santiago early July this year and wanted to share my blog with you here as I know there is limited information on this route (compared to the Camino Frances).

I walked the Camino Frances in May last year and since then have also walked the Coast to Coast (UK), Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage (Japan), Thames Path (UK), Hadrian's Wall (UK), and hopefully will be walking the Via de la Plata next... I'm kinda addicted to walking now!

I'm new to blogging so if you have any suggestions/comments/feedback, please do let me know! (Please bare with me, the Japan walk and Hadrian's Wall will be uploaded very shortly).

I hope it can be of some assistance to anyone planning any of these walks, or anyone simply interested in reading about a single female walker getting lost throughout Spain, Portugal, Japan & the UK... and all the random acts of kindness I've experienced along the way.

Hi Kat. Read your blog. Very recognisable. We walked from Lisbon last year( two of the 977 obviously
We did it a little longer than you but had similar experiences.
Enjoyed reading it and saw similar pictures. It all looks very familiar.thanks for sharing

Where will your next camino be?

On our leg from Lisbon to Porto we did not meet many other either. In the beginning like you none ,than an american guy and from Hilario in Mealhada some.
The lot indeed started from casa da Fernanda and on to Tui but there was no bedrace. It was quit relaxing

We walked out of Porto the safe side from Matosinhos along the coast to Vila do Conde and from there the interior to São Pedro de Rates.
Because we walked that part , next year May we will start in Póvoa da Varzím, just 5 kms from Vila do Conde ,and walk along the coast all away to Vigo and on and will make the ruta des Salnés detour from Pontevedra .

What is the title of the guide of the Hadrian Wall Randi ?
Long time ago I drove by car from Newcastle to Carlisle. Did not know there is a trail too.

Hi Randi,

Hopefully I'll have the Hadrian's Wall blog up before the weekend, I did it about 2 weeks ago (the exact time the weather turned bad here in the UK!) It was a nice easy walk, although we were up against a strong headwind and rain most days, but this is to be expected walking in the UK

but I personally prefer the Trailblazer guides for their maps and detailed information.

At the end of my Portuguese Camino, I took the bus from Santiago to Vigo and spent a week there visiting the Isle of Cies, Ourenso and a few other places on the coast - it's an incredibly beautiful side of Galicia and I'm sure the camino that goes through there would be stunning, I look forward to hearing about it when you do it!

I have a look on Hadrian's wall path. And the guides you mention
For over 25 years I had friends in Sunderland (howay the lads ! ) so I know the area quite well.
From my youngests years I visited the UK many times. It stopped when my first wife passed away. I love the south of England and for the first time in many years we will go to Poole and Bournemouth later this month.

My second wife and I walked the camiño Ingles this year and took our car and caravan with us . We had our camp north of Ferrol in Valdoviño. There is a hike further up north which should be great .
Galicia is beautifull to stay . We loved to walk at the northside but also last year when we walked from Portugal.

I will make a blog again for next year's caminho Portuges da Costa
