Made a DIY camino shell a few weeks ago. But then I heard my old professor/mentor was retiring and he mentioned he’s always wanted to do the Camino, so I encouraged him to go this year(!) and gave the shell to him.

I have a smaller shell already spray painted in gold, just need to draw the cross. But it probably won’t be as nice as this one, this one was an anomaly! It came out so well!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

That is fantastic. I have also made my own but never thought of spraying it like yours. My cross is no way as good as yours, how do you get it so perfect. Btw, someone told me I was breaking copyright as the design belongs to the cathedral. Find that hard to believe as I have seen many made by different places along the way. My favourite was from albergue Lurgorri, Mañeru ,now sadly closed

Thank you! I printed the cross on an A4 paper then make a cut out/stencil with Stanley knife. But it was quite tricky as the shell has a curve, so had to make sure when I blotched the red paint for the cross that I got the stencil following the curve. It gave an alright basic shape, then I freehanded the rest.

The stencil method didn’t work as well on smaller shell though (I wanted to have a mini one as I think that’s more practical for rucksack), it looked really bad, so I resprayed it with gold, and when one day I feel inspired again, I will have to paint the cross freehand from the beginning!

After painting the shell gold and making your stencil for the cross, red nail polish would be a good option to use for the paint. 💅
I thought about that but it would be expensive! And the brush is not as precise
