"Camino Virgin" walking in May 2012 before my 50th

Stephen (Frosty) and girlfriend Jane are leaving the dog and four kids in Surrey (UK) to embark on this amazing adventure in May. Having watched "The Way" we felt inspired to put one foot in front of the other and amble across Spain to Santiago. We are hoping to start May 1st and it will take as long as it takes. See you there..... Frosty

Hello!

I plan to start my camino in SJPD on May 1st as well! Are you flying in to Paris? I fly in to Paris CDG April 29th and will head to Bayonne, stay the night and get to SJPD on the 30th. Let me know if you'd like to travel that first leg together!

Hi Stephen here. Joan I'm planning to travel to Pau to see my sister and then drive to Saint Jean Pier de Port around the 1st May. I haven't arranged any more than that. Daunting!

Hi Stephen - I too aam a Pilgrim virgin and hoping to start from ~St Jean in September walkling to possibly Santiago as I can't afford to be away from home for 5-6 weeks in one go due to elderly parents. I'm hoing to book into cheap hotels and also take the coward's way out and use baggage transfers. Also I'm wondering about the language, do you speak any spanish?

Kay. I can order a beer.... That's about all the Spanish I currently know. I'm going to swat up on some basics apart from that I'm going to wing it. It will add to the adventure.! But I did buy my Camino walking boots today..... I just need to get to know them now. Wish me luck. Frosty

If you can order a beer already you'll be fine. After several you might even be a fluent speaker! 'Necesito gasolina' is the phrase to remember if you need a beer. (Only joking!) Buen Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
HI! I am planning on starting my camino from Phoenix Arizona to Madrid then train to Pamplona. Hope to start walking on May3. So hope to meet some of you along the way!!! Aleida

Stephen, Jane,Joan, Kay and Aleida...welcome to the Forum and the Class of 2012!

You are off on an amazing journey for many different reasons and have, I am sure, asked yourself why and why now!

Frosty indicates it was the movie: "The Way"...what about the rest of you?

Oh, and about speaking Spanish...it's always appreciated when you at least try. Here are a few key phrases:

Where is the bathroom? ¿Dónde está el baño

Where is the albergue? ¿Dónde está el albergue municipal?

Where is the pharmacy (Chemist)? ¿Dónde está la farmacia

Where is the Camino? ¿Dónde está el camino?

Where is the bus or train station? ¿Dónde está la estación de autobús o tren?

Where can I get drinking water? ¿Dónde puedo conseguir agua potable?

Where is the supermarket? ¿Dónde está el supermercado?

I would like a large beer please! Me gustaría una cerveza grande por favor

That should get you at least a few necessities.

Buen Camino

Hi Arn!

I actually read Shirley Maclaines The Camino in 99 and have been wanting to make this trip myself ever since. I've actually tried to book tickets twice over the years but life got in the way as it will. But now I'm all booked up and ready to go! I start walking May 1 with the hopes of making it to Santiago on June 6th, my 30th birthday :)

Joan,

Great news! Yup, once the tickets are purchased...Camino is around the corner.

I hope you have the time of your life and the Way is all you hope it can be.

Buen Camino
