Cheese for the holidays

I am a little behind in my holiday preparation, having been wiped out by a four week cold/infection. So, though it will be a little late, I'm ordering some cheese as a present for my son who has lived in Asturias and walked the Camino in 2008. I was absolutely ecstatic to find that La Peral cheese is available for purchase in the US. http://www.artisanalcheese.com/Iberian- ... s/1111/3/0

It's a bit pricey, but at $22 a pound makes a nice present. For me, this is the best Spanish blue -- not so pungent and strong as Cabrales (I know Cabrales has its many fans and I don't mean to insult). But this is much creamier and dreamier if I may say so.

So even here in the middle of industrial corn and soy fields, we can still get some pretty amazing products!

The website has some machego and some Idiazabal, another favorite of mine. Shipping is $10, for overnight refrigerated delivery. Not cheap, but also not outrageous at least relative to other sites' shipping fees.

Back to my belated Christmas shopping.....

I just got tetilla cheese for this year from the same source! Very tasty.

Sorry, they are now sold out...

I brought some membrio (not sure of the spelling) back from one of my trips last year. None of my friends liked it! Strange!

I gave my neighbors little flower plants for Christmas, and/or a bar of turron.
More than half, for Epiphany, gave me KILOS of homemade membrillo! Deelish, but way too much for just two of us! Wish you were here, Al.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Is that the Valdeon you were referring to peregrina (the link does not say) if so we had some for Christmas too.

Alas, since I purchased La Peral several years ago when I first started this thread, this site has stopped selling it. The new list of Spanish cheeses is here: http://www.artisanalcheese.com/collections/spain

I've probably had Valdeon, but I don't have a clear memory of it, but La Peral.... so creamy and wonderful! Anyone know where to get it in the US now that Artisinal Cheese has stopped selling it?

p.s. The Idiazabal is also quite good, but I can get that in my own little cheese shop, so I don't think you need to go far afield for it.

Me too. Not just for the membrillo but to repeat the delight of meeting the dogs and you both again.
