Did Anyone Stay In the Town of Aubrac?

We are starting the Camino in September and I'm putting together a tentative itinerary to research potential places to stay. I think that we'll be stopping overnight in Aubrac but haven't been able to find any feedback on the accommodations. Has anyone stayed there?

Hi, the gite at the Hotel Aubrac has beds for 12 euros. Otherwise, rooms for 49 euros:

I can recommend it. The gite was full when we got there, so we took a room.

Note that Aubrac and Aumont-Aubrac are different, and the Hotel Aubrac recommended above is in the latter!

Other than that, I guess I've walked through Aubrac without it making any impression on me, headed in to St Chely d'Aubrac.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel mentioned in my post. It's upscale and our room as well as dinner there were quite good.

As noted above there is Aubrac and Aumont-Aubrac.

In Aumont Aubrac I fully recommend the Gîte La Ferme du Barry, it was recommended to me and I loved it. The food and atmosphere was magnificent.

In the beautiful village of Aubrac for the true pilgrim experience stay at the 'Tower of the English' (also called The Dromerie) a huge imposing tower and one of the villages original buildings that used to ring 'a bell of the lost' to guide pilgrims off the moor. Splendid place for only 10 Euro's.

I have stayed in both the Brocante (they put your pack in a plastic bag to keep the bed bugs away) and the Les Gites du Royal Aubrac, ski-resort-like. The aligot dinner at the Royal Aubrac was a festive occasion of fifty people. Both are good value. Desserts at Chez Germaine are excellent.

Not quite on topic I know and hope the moderators are in a mellow mood.

I passed through Aubrac early one Sunday in April and immediately started the descent to Sainte Come-d'Oct via Saint-Chely-d'Aubrac.

I had left my mountain goat gear at home and had the most awful day of it. I would want to consider walking on the D987 for a future pilgrimage for this section when starting from Le Puy-en-Velay.

9. Aubrac. Royal Hotel

At Aubrac. We stayed at the Royal hotel. Not royal and not a hotel. It was a life-saver, though, as we had battled our way through blizzard and whiteout conditions, but imagine more a camp for teenagers in style.
At Aubrac-Aumont. Le Ferme du Barri. Our first experience with Aligot, the local delicacy, a mashed potato, cheese and garlic food which is served with great fanfare. (It is fun the first time, but tends to be repeated in many gites around here). This was billed as an outstanding gite and although the building is very old and full of interesting artefacts we did not feel it lived up to its reputation, although to be fair the owner gave us a lot of help in booking some accommodation.

Stayed with three friends at the hotel, ate aligot like Magnara did. Really enjoyed the stay, but it was early spring and the Aubrac...so this is what greeted us when we woke:

Next morning, as you can see, was even more rugged. Strange to say, I feel more nostalgic for the Aubrac than for any other part of the Camino.
