From your post I am assuming you already have a credencial. If so you can have it stamped at the first albergue you stay in, or a church or a bar or anywhere with a sello. There are many places :) There is no need to have it formally authorised anywhere before you begin. For the purpose of receiving a Compostela the only essential evidence is that you should have two stamps per day for the final 100km before Compostela.

This is exactly what I did for my first Camino. Here is the website for bus times.

Beware you may have to change bus in the Madrid Estacion Sur. We did and nobody told us that the bus out of the airport didn't say the final destination.

Have your credential stamped when you get to Ponferrada. And as said before - twice a day from Sarria onwards.

Buen Camino.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
