Hi all just arrived in Villafranca after a gruelling walk from Granon. I plan to be in Burgos within 48 hours and wondered if anyone knew of any good 'English' speaking doctors along 'The Way in Burgos? My right leg swells just above the ankle (front) and I need to get it seen to. It's only been happening for the past 2 days. I'm guessing shin splints, but it's probably not good to self diagnose. Apart from that I'm having the time of my life

Thx in advance.....

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I used an emergency clinic in Burgos on the south side of the river in 2014. Let me see if I can figure out its name and address and I'll post below. Front desk did not speak any English but I had translated my symptoms and written them down. Doctor spoke English.

Centro de Salud San Agustín,
Calle de Bonifacio Zamora de Usabel, s/n, 09001 Burgos, Spain

Basically cross the river from the cathedral heading south, go south on Calle de Madrid until you reach the roundabout, take the 1st right out of the round about onto Calle San Agustin, Right at the next circle onto Calle de Bonifacio Zamora de Usabel, and you are there. Pharmacy is across the street if I remember right, back on Calle San Agustin

OK here it is - as a google map link. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Centro+de+Salud+San+Agustín/@42.3338827,-3.7013153,16z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1shospitals+near+burgos+spain!3m4!1s0x0:0x5f5a2d89519dbd0a!8m2!3d42.3333001!4d-3.70206

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Pilgrim, I'll not try and diagnose your condition, we'll leave that to the Centro de Salud.

Meanwhile, rest, elevation and icing will do no harm and may help. And slow down. The next stretch from Villafranca to St Juan de Ortega is a switch-back of ascents and descents and may be pretty challenging. You might want to consider a rest-day or even public transport to Burgos.

Best of luck

I used Centro de Salud in Burgos and had a very competent consultation for 74e. As said previously it did take them an hour and a half to figure out which paper work for a non EU patient. Antibiotics for my issue? 0.94e

If you can do it, **pay your bill at the clinic** at the time you are there or at least while you are still in the province. You won't believe the problems you can run into if you figure that you can pay from home. Giving them your travel insurance information may not work either (it didn't for us, they billed us personally.) Pay then; it may be about 100 euros or so. Getting reimbursed from your insurance company will be easier than paying SACYL (Castille and Leon's health clinic) from home. They do not accept credit cards.

If you have an EHIC just show that and pay the clinic what they ask, and it all happens more or less automatically for the refund (just not fast) If you are from outside Europe same thing applies minus the refund. Last time I saw a doctor in Spain they just said no problem, pilgrim, no charge. Which was nice.

Thanks for all the responses Camino friends. Really appreciate it :) Don't have time to reply as I am about to hit the trail again. You've given me some great information though. Thx Heaps!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi Julian, my husband and I used that clinic while we were in Burgos and they were amazing. However, later in our trip my husband experienced a week of exrusiating shin splints and we were fortunate to find KT (kinesiology tape) and applied it to his shins and amazingly his pain disappeared for the remainder of the trip. We are planning to take this journey again September 2017 and will bring a roll with us in case needed again. It works amazingly.
Buen Camino
