Hi Irish rambler, greetings from Dublin :)
I walked the same part as you last yr. I can only speak for myself as I flew out of Dublin. You have a number of options. You can fly direct to Santiago de Compostela and get a bus / train to Leon, or fly direct to Madrid and travel again to Leon. Some airlines fly to Bilbao and a lot of people I know chose that option. I flew to Madrid with Ryanair and got an ultra quick train to Leon. Hope that helps! David.

Thanks for your advice David I am considering flight to Sandander from Dublin then return flight from Santiago to dublin Looking forward to it How many days would you recommend comfortable walking to give from Leon to Santiago..

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Give yourself 14 days of walking and that will be fine. You can even take a day off in between depending on your seeped. I recommend you stay in Molinaseca if you can. Nice spot.
